Food Lion Inc v. Capital Cities/ABC, Inc. Anybody read this?

"The ABC defendants appeal the district court's denial of their motion for judgement as a matter of law..." What does that mean? ABC just wanted everything appealed? They didn't feel like the judgement they received from the jury adequately applies the law to the case at hand?
