Should I get a MacBook Pro?

I am in the market to get a new laptop for law school--one that will get me through the next 3 years. The concensus on tls seems to be that one should go with the 13" MacBook Pro

I have always used windows and am not very comfortable with macs--one of my concerns is that I will be getting my laptop about a week before the start of classes and it will likely take me some time to get accustomed to the new format--am I overthinking things or is this a valid concern?

Macs are obviously pricier. I could get a solid sony laptop for under 700---and technology changes really fast. so at the end of the day, will I want to keep the same laptop for all 3 years anyway? Also, does the macbook really hold up better than the rest?

I heard the Pro is completely unnecessary unless you plan on playing games and some other stuff. I'm pretty sure that the basic macbook will be fine.

My Dell burnt out around Thanksgiving of last year (1L year). I got a Pro and felt completely comfortable on it by the time finals rolled around 3 weeks later. I had never used a Mac before, either. You should be fine, adjustment-wise.

It really isn't difficult to adjust to using a Mac. The operating system is designed to be intuitive. Do you have an iPod? Did you find it hard to figure out?

But did you find it difficult to use? No, right? Then you're good.

Go windows. Yes mac is better, but Windows is more compatible. This is not only for games but also for some law schools software etc. That compatibility is invaluable.

If you plan on playing games, a mac of any kind is completely worthless.

My 13'' MacBook Pro came a few days ago and it's certainly awesome! Right now you'll get a free iPod and printer as well. You probably can sell the iPod for at least $100 and recoup some of the costs of your new computer.

When I made the switch from Windows to Mac OS it took me about an hour and a half to feel completely comfortable. You'll never go back once you've learned to use your Mac. Plus, you can still get Microsoft Office for your Mac. Most schools nowadays aren't living in the stone age either so your Mac should be compatible with your exam software (make sure to check though).

also, buy the Apple Care!

awesome. so whats the difference between a regular macbook and a pro? The regular one is 949 while the pro is 1099..so about a hundred dollar difference, which isnt too much if there is a significant advantage to the pro outside of gaming, which i dont intend on doing

Yes, but the difference in price is so minimal, it's worth it to pay roughly $100 more for over $100 of more computer.

People still do things outside the browser?

1. Get the cheapest computer that is still reliable and has a comfortable keyboard.
2. Live on the cloud.
3. ?????
4. Profit.

It was a gift, so I didn't make that comparison myself. I hope that others can enlighten you better than I can, but I've been very happy so far.

The only reason to get a mac is because you like their Operating system. OP doesn't like OSX, and instead likes windows. This means OP should get a laptop with windows.

She'll also have a lot of money.

Buy a 600 dollar dell and be done with it.

Concur with the anti-Dell sentiment. It's like they custom build them to shit the bed at the most crucial moment.

Also, the company is going to hell in a handbasket. Heard it here (and in Business Week) first, ladies and gents.

My suggestions, depending upon what precisely the OP is looking for:

Price : reliability is the lowest on the market.

Asus is probably best choice if you will pay a small premium, for a slightly lower defect rate.
