Shaking the mental rust off before 1L?

I'm wondering if anyone tries to keep their minds sharp during their summer before 1L year. In my case, my summer job wound up being a wash; the boss stopped handing out work and short term work in my area is hard to find. Vacation isn't in the cards, either, and I just feel like I'm letting my mind become "dull" for a lack of better description. Wake up, gym, TV, TLS, a little GTM, sleep. Lather, rinse, repeat. Anyone else previously or currently in a situation similar to this, including those stuck toiling in "monkey-could-do-it" jobs, etc.? If so, did you / have you found a way to keep yourself sharp? (e.g. reading a lot, doing sudoku or crosswords, artistic endeavors, 0L prep, etc).

there was a thread a while back about summer reading for fun a while back. i got a library card and have been using it frequently.
this is the law book thread but it also has a few non-law books too....i guess i failed at bookmarking the other one =\

This is going to sound ridiculous, but give it a shot for two weeks: Cut all the processed foods out of your diet (if you already have, then FYI for other readers). Shop the perimeter of the grocery store and don't buy anything that comes in a package with more than 5 ingredients.

annnd sleep 8 hours a night and start running/lifting

I dig his stuff. I'm also a huge fan of Gary Taubes. OP, if you want a really neat read, check out his book "Good Calorie, Bad Calorie." Your trip to the grocery store will never be the same.

this is very important, so heed my advice carefully. you know how predators only pick off the slowest and the weakest buffalo? it makes the herd as a whole faster, even if they do have to lose a few buffalo in the process. alcohol does the same thing to your brain. you need to put your brain through a careful drinking regimen this summer. drink heavily and frequently, but make sure to give yourself a day of rest here and there. come fall your brain will be a sleek and efficient machine, running faster than your peers, and eventually giving you the edge you need.

#1 tip i can give to 0ls. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. DO NOT GO ON FACEBOOK or TWITTER DURING CLASS.
