Top Law Schools

I don't think your law school expects/wants you to read all of these, this list seems more like a "you may find these books interesting or benefit from them in a broad sense, so you should consider checking some of them out" kind of list.

I mean, honestly, they have "To Kill a Mockingbird" on there.

Does seem a little much.

Though I highly recommend "The Brethren." Just read it last week. Pretty darn interesting.

I'm not suggesting it's a bad book (I personally like it) but it wouldn't be worth shit to a law student in terms of helping them with legal issues or class. But it may offer some benefit to law students looking to be deluded about the legal profession.

A Civil Action and TKAM are two of my favorite law-related books. I mean, obviously not meant to really teach you about the law, but gives you that "window into the legal profession" oppty. Except I wouldn't go for broke like he did in A Civil Action and lay all your possessions on the line for one case. Stuuuuupidddddd lol.

There are a lot of lawyers who were inspired to go into law because of Atticus Finch. I was inspired to go into law because of Clarrence Darrow and the Monkey Trial.

Thats the same list Susan Estrich gave in her book "How to get into Law School".

I think I'm going to check out a few of those titles though.

My mom was going to get this for me as part of a graduation gift or something, but I told her I had never really heard of it so she may want to hold off (cause I know there are so many crap books out there on law school I didn't want her to waste the money). Apparently it has like, 30 five star reviews on Amazon and nothing else, so maybe it actually IS pretty solid (although you can't always trust those). It's like $30, though!

For those of you who have read GTM, LSC, and PLS... would you recommend this book as well? Is there anything in it that isn't in the other books?

Awesome book. I cannot recommend it enough times.

Maybe take a half an hour at Borders or B&N and flip through it in the coffee shop, if there's one nearby. I think they'll let you browse special orders, if they don't have it in stock. Part of what makes it appealing is McClurg's humor and honesty about the ups and downs of LS, and that would be hard to get across in a set of bullet points. As to specifics about what he has that others don't, I'd have to wait until I'm home next week and can review my copy--but one section that comes to mind is a later chapter on LRW for which McClurg found multiple LRW instructors to collaborate with; it's formatted as a roundtable discussion and provides some very good insight. His review of supplements is also very comprehensive.
