Typing how many words/minute in your opinion is adequate for law school? Both for exams and in class note-taking?

I was topping out at about 40-50 using own method that had nothing to do with proper typing. I am now learning to touch type and was wondering if I will be able to get up to speed by the time school starts in August.

note: typeracer.com is a pretty decent resource to check your speed.

Curious on this as well. Just used that typeracer thing to see where I'm at...thanks OP.

I'm between 50 and 60 wpm (used to be around 80-90 when I was in UG I guess I've lost my edge haha) with about 95-100% accuracy.

Maybe 30-40? It really isn't a very big deal. I think I only consistently type around 40 or so, and it has not remotely affected me.

New thing to do while bored: own people in races on typeracer. Topping out around 125 wpm right now.

OP, fast typing does help a lot, on note-taking as well as on exams. I'm not sure how many gains you'll be able to make, but it's a useful skill to have. You'll probably improve as the semester goes along, too.

Thanks for the response. Looks like I have some work ahead of me as I just hit a personal touch-typing best of 28 wpm.

Typeracer is going to distract me from beating all the levels perfectly in bubble tanks tower defense! I'm actually doing a bit better than I would have guessed, averaging around 75 wpm with 98%+ accuracy. One day I will be able to challenge clevinger33!

I used typingweb.com to get me started and found it quite helpful. I completed the beginner course and ventured out on my own afterwards.

I'd never seen these kind of typing sites until TLS showed the way, ITT and others. Very addictive.

And I just hit 103, so, I'm probably never really seriously getting back to work in my final 2.5 weeks.

I hate you guys for getting me hooked on this. 125 WPM at 98% accuracy.

Typer Shark FTW! Seriously, I think my law school grades have come down to typing speed and memory. I type about 90-100 WPM and I think it really helped me this past year.

if you don't punch out at least 3000 words in 3 hours given for a typical issue spotter exam, you're not going to get an A or A-.

Oooh TypeRacer is great! I've never tried it before.

This will give me something to do at my boring on-campus job for the summer, since I don't have to study for the LSAT anymore.

45 WPM my first try, 64 on my second (94% accuracy.)
