Office 2007 for VERY cheap + FREE Office 2010 Upgrade!

Post by RickyMack » Mon Jun 07, 2010 9:31 pm

Sorry I know this looks like website spam, but these are actual offers straight from Microsoft!

I've posted this first link in a previous thread but here it is again. School bookstores typically offer productivity suites for good discounts, I know my school offers Office 2007 and Office Pro 2007 for $77 and $89 respectively, but this student discount completely trumps both of them.

Microsoft the Ultimate Steal

for $60 you get the Microsoft Ultimate Office 2007 suite, which includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, Groove, Publisher, Access, and Infopath 2007, suggested retail is $671.

Since trying out the Office 2010 beta I wanted to know how much it would cost to see if it would be worth it to get 2010 instead of the Ultimate 2007 for cheap when I came across this deal.

Microsoft Office 2010 Technological Guarantee (LinkRemoved)

"Purchase, install, and activate a qualifying Office 2007 product between March 5, 2010, and September 30, 2010, and you’ll be eligible to download Office 2010 at no additional cost."

Here's the deal, Office 2010 Home and Student only features Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. Boxed retail will cost $149, download only $119. To get Outlook you'll need to purchase Home and Business for $279 or $199 w/o box, which is cheaper than the current Office 2007 Business, but still.

Purchasing Office 2007 Ultimate and using the upgrade will allow you to upgrade to Office 2010 Professional which includes everything in Home and Student plus Outlook, Publisher, and Access and would retail for $499 and $349 w/o box. Programs in Office 2007 Ultimate that are not in Office Professional 2010 will not be upgraded for obvious reasons. Through 2010's utilization of click-to-run software streaming, previous version of Office will be able to exist with Office 2010 and will not disappear.

To qualify for the Ultimate Steal deal you will need an @*.edu email and currently registered with at least 1 unit to purchase. Right now I'm an 0L, so while I have my edu mail from my school I haven't registered for classes, I got the email back from Microsoft that I qualify but I'll be waiting til I register to actually buy it. The upgrade deal lasts until Sept 30 of this year so this shouldn't be a problem for other 0Ls even if you're on the quarter system.

If your campus has a better deal to purchase Office 2007, they probably received the discount using Microsoft's Student Select Program. Be sure to ask if this is the case, because if it is you won't be able to use the Technological Guarantee option. Instead there is another offer available to the resellers, your campus bookstore, for upgrading. The website indicates that pricing will be at the discretion of the reseller, so it may be free or at a discounted price.

Awesome point! I just looked it up and apparently if you buy from a campus bookstore you'll need to use another offer to do a free upgrade to 2010, I edited the first post to include it.
