Cell-phones with internet access & usefulness in school

Has anyone found that a phone with internet access has been useful in law school, i.e. has it come in handy beyond the social/whimsical uses of a phone with web access? I don't have one currently, but I could easily be convinced to get one if it made the school aspect of life easier.
/Just curious.

edit: I'm really just looking to justify my desire to have one. Please help.

It's been helpful for discreetly browsing the Internet when you're in a really boring meeting and don't want anyone to see what you're doing.

Thanks. I suck at browsing through topic headers.

After I started using a phone with decent internet browsing activities, I really can't imagine life without one. Seriously, it increases your overall productivity. For example, if you're at a job fair or presentation, you can google the presenters, etc.

I use the unlimited internet on my phone all the time. If I need to do email, I can do it on the fly. I can also follow the sports scores (I am a baseball and hockey fanatic), look up anything I need on google, pull up maps, read the news, etc. Sure, this is all stuff I can do on a real comp, but sometimes its nice to just have it all in your pocket. I mean, its not like I have an iphone (I'm on Verizon, and I see no use of such a great iphone web browser when the 3G network sucks so bad), but it serve its purpose.

It is by no means essential. You should be spending all of your time studying anyway :)

Also if money is tight then a contract for 2k may be better spent elsewhere.

I got my first smart phone in law school (after resisting for some time), and it's been invaluable. Even though law students have their laptops w/ them almost all the time, having access to email and calendars w/o having to pull out your laptop is super-useful for recruiting, scheduling mtgs, getting updates related to class, etc.

It's well worth the initial phone cost and $30/month. If you're paying sticker, not having one is penny-wise/pound-foolish. If you're on scholly, you can well afford the little bit extra per month.

This also applies to classes in which laptops are banned.

How about an ordinary cell phone with itouch? i'm pretty sure this would work since most campuses now a days provide wireless internet and you'll have internet access without having to pay $30/month extra on your phone bill.

Bahahaha. There is no way I could take that guy seriously, no matter how smart he may be.
