Forum for IP/Patent Law

I have already suggested it to Ken and one of the mods....
Due to the unique requirements of patent law (and to a lesser extent IP) I wanted to see if there is significant interest in creating a special forum for it...

Also, I guess suggestions as to any specific types of content would be helpful...

How is the job market for Patent Law? Is there still a high demand?

intelproplaw is certainly an invaluable website, but it is very convoluted and overwhelming. I think that since many on TLS (including myself) are always asking about patent, and intelproplaw doesnt cater to law students anyway, a forum on TLS would be a great addition.

Yea it is definitely aimed towards an older crowd.

Though I posted a thread there and got outed as a TLSer in the first reply.

I really don't see why we'd need to further subdivide for this. There's no way your questions fall outside of the scope of law students / law employment - why move the discussion? First rule of forums: The more you have, the fewer that will receive high traffic.

Well, we are not necessarily looking for high traffic, but if you do have a separate forum, it will be easier to locate threads on topic, and it may actually bring in higher traffic on topic.

Agreed. It always seems that most job info always carries a caveat that it might not apply to patent law. For instance, no one but IP people have paying 1L summer jobs this summer at my top 20. Clearly there are some things that are just too IP specific to not have their own section.

+1. With any post, you TECHNICALLY dont need to have a specific forum. For instance, people can always specify that they are potential applicants (which they usually do anyway), but a specific forum is allocated to fit a need, and to make it easier to search.

Hmmm....for some reason, I KNEW amy would back me up

Definitely an idea with a lot of merit. The only con is that the main forum page is already getting quite crowded and a forum for IP and then of course other specialties would really add to the number of forums. Perhaps a forum dedicated to areas of law and then you can go to sub forums with a focus on IP law, Corporate law, public interest, etc. Would this be a good compromise?

Thanks Dre for the feedback, I always appreciate ideas on improving TLS. Best,

Ken

Ken,
Thanks for chiming in! I agree that it may get crowded. The sub-forum idea sounds great...or, perhaps you can make those topics under the Legal Employment Forum?
Thanks for all of your great work for the TLS community...
