Holy cow. One of the most in depth polls ever. Your knowledge of supplements is a little creepy.

Wow! I've never even heard of half of those. Where you a pharmacology major in UG or something??? Or perhaps you're the 1L supplier looking for some insight on what drugs other law students are looking to score these days... I'd prefer that wonderful powdery stimulant to all of those though.

Coffee and/or cola. - Green tea ftw
Caffeine or ephedrine pills.
Off-the-shelf "focus" complexes like "Neuro PS".
Sulbutiamine

I was surprised at how many I could honestly choose  .

i work out, try to sleep well, and eat right. this probably provides me with more energy than any substances and is better in the long run. i don't even consume caffeine, except sometimes when i eat chocolate.

Just lots of coffee and soda.

Can't see myself taking pills. Would make me feel like a drug addict (even if I'm mildly addicted to coffee).

Took Adderall on several occasions during undergrad, but will try to keep it to natural (or "normal" i.e. coffee) supplements during LS. Last time I took Adderall, I ended up with neck pain that lasted a week because I sat in one position studying all night at the library. There appears to be a bad side to TOO much focus, I guess.

I drink coffee every morning. This is a holdover from the office job I had before I started law school.

I am prone to migraine, so I tend to keep Excedrin migraine (acetaminophen + aspirin + caffeine) with me at all times in case I need it. I admit that I have used it a couple of times when I didn't have a headache to enhance my concentration. I used it, for instance, at the midway point of each of my exams, and during the big push toward my spring appellate brief. Ideally, I would have just had a cup of coffee instead, but who has time to go brew coffee in the middle of an exam?

I find adrenaline is more than enough for exams. Caffeine would push me into panic mode- not to mention the diuretic effect would mean too many bathroom breaks.

Dude - almost everyone drinks coffee to stay on their A-game, with the exception of Mormons, I don't know how they are so competitive at BYU without it. Midterms week before spring break, I was drinking about 6 cups a day w/espresso shots to stay awake. If we're putting coffee in with performance enhancing drugs, then that phrase is now pretty much all-encompassing.

I'm kind of surprised that cocaine was omitted from the poll. I mean, adderall is essentially a legal version of cocaine. And it seems so thorough otherwise.

I can't respond since I'm not in law school, but if I was, I'd mark the coffee option. I don't know how people who don't drink coffee can handle any sort of academics/intellectual activity.

Btw- tons of Mormons at my school drink Monsters and stuff. I wonder if that is the whole "Mormons are allowed to drink Pepsi products" think someone once told me. That is probably a myth, but if not it could explain that side of things.

It's weird. Adrenaline during exams definitely makes me hyper, but it's hyper in a worrying, distracted, terrified kind of way, not in a focused kind of way. Caffeine, on the other hand, intensifies my focus on the task at hand and helps me ignore distractions.

I tend to use the restroom once an hour no matter what I put into my body (caffeine, water, salt). Three quick bathroom breaks during an exam aren't a big deal, especially if I can continue to think about the exam while I'm going to the restroom. But to each his/her own, and YMMV.

I don't do this myself, but I've been struck by the number of people who freely admit to non-prescription Adderall or Ritalin use in law school. I guess it's not a whole lot different from caffeine use, other than the legality issue...but people are pretty open about it, and I find that unusual.
