What are you going to do besides working?
I plan on doing a road trip to every state. Learn to play guitar, surf and skydive.

Uh, wrong forum maybe? I think most everyone is really, really hoping to be working/interning their 1L summer... Unless that's what you mean by "misery," in which case I'm not really sure what to say.

Sleeping. I need to hustle hard to pay for stuff next year.
Renzo, I think for OP work=misery.

Man, I hope not for his/her sake. If the OP thinks a 35hr/wk internship is "misery," what are they going to think about real work?

dj would be a sweet gig. Do you have the turn tables? One buddy of mine bought it and began remixing songs that he liked. He said it was probably one of the most fun things he's ever done. If, not you can always revert to DJ HERO.

Funny you should mention that. Having just moved to a new city, I'm going to spend my free time getting established in the dj community here. Hopefully, this will lead to some gigs. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get my own night going and do that rather than work 2L year.
Apper, if you want tips or anything, PM me.

mac- how time intensive is it to learn? Does it require a high learning curve?

Yeah, its pretty time intensive. You have to retrain your brain to hear two songs at once, to count beats on those two songs, and to listen for when one song is slipping off of the other (and then to make the necessary correction). The learning curve is pretty steep, I think, because there is so much going on at once. Its incredibly frustrating at first, but once you get the fundamentals down, your skill set is limited only by your own creativity.

You have any samples of mixes you've done? I love remixes!

Depending on where I end up, we might road trip across the country or bum around my in-laws lake house for a few months. I already gave notice at work (June 13 WOOOTT).

I don't yet. I've always experimented with it using software, but I never jumped in. I've been into trance/techno/dance (whatever the mainstream wants to call it) music for quite a long time now, so I know the industry, artists and trends pretty well. I've always wanted to DJ and have just never brought myself to do it. I feel like it would be an awesome thing to do during the final 2 years of law school not only to relax and meet people, but to make $$ too (although $$ from it honestly isn't a high priority).

I probably will PM you. I have a basic understanding of how it works, but I wouldn't know where to start equipment wise. I've played instruments my entire life and have led, conducted and rehearsed some fairly large musical groups in the past few years. I was as close as you could get to being a music major in college without actually being one, so I have a very good foundation in music theory, a trained ear, etc. I'd have to hope this would drop the learning curve quite a bit. Listening to beats, predicting where they are going and mixing in other beats is pretty natural to me... I just need to get proficient on the equipment haha.
