What do you do for money in Law School, especially as a 1L

I ask because while this isn't the case with most people I was supported through college. Now that I am on my own I am wondering how you guys make cash. Even a part-time job would be hard to balance I imagine. As a 1L when research jobs may not be available i am curious how to make a buck. On a similar note, those who worked for a long time, lets say 5 plus years, how do you compensate with at one time being paid a steady salary for a while and now not having a good flow.

You live poor rather than run the risk of taking on extra hours and ruining your law school investment.

I've been stripping on Thursday's and Friday's. It's good money, flexible hours, and I always have dollar bills for the vending machines.

I met at 1L who went to St. Louis University who "danced" for money. I won't tell you where I met her though ...

You could think of law school as a job. The government pays you 65 grand to go. You spend 45 on tuition, 10 grand on living, 10 grand on drinking. Then you pay it back later. Thats how im thinking of it

The ABA has a very strict hours requirement on the # of hours that you may work.

I think most people live off some combination of savings + student loans.

As a general rule, don't count on making any substantial amount of money during the 1L academic year. Expect that your loans & savings (if any) will be your entire income for that time. Unlike a lot of people, I don't think that working during 1L is inherently a bad idea, but a job that is flexible & accomodating enough to be done w/o impacting 1L grades is highly unlikely to result in significant income (as always, YMMV).
You should be able to get at least a little more money in the summer if you're motivated to do so: at your legal job (SA, corporate in-house intern, RA), as a grant from your school, as a grant from an outside source, or at the very least at a non-legal job you do PT in addition to your unpaid legal one. You can also work over breaks if you have the opportunity.

I think some combination of loans/financial aid and savings is TCR, though some also have SOs or parents/other family helping out.

Gigolo, I also sell organs of which I have two, but only need one (Eyes, Kidneys, Testicles). The latter route can be lucrative, but you need to maximize your monetary gain. The former route is another story altogether.

Went to a strip club on Friday and got an offer to work there anytime. Do I get health and dental?

Do many students teach or tutor LSAT while in law school?

Hustle.
Do odd jobs for people in your neighborhood.
Pick up some easy on-campus employment. The law library and undergrad library are the usual suspects. Sometimes you can find on-campus work that only wants a grad student. These pay more, and are a bit cushier. Whatever you do, make sure your job entails lots of sitting, and you'll be golden.
Use a skill that you had prior to LS and make some money from that. Lifeguarding, math/science/language tutoring all come to mind.
Sell plasma for drinking money. You get ~$20 and you instantly become a lightweight. Win-win!
Sign up to do clinical trials, if they fit your schedule.
Just get creative, and don't operate with a perspective that goes something like the following: "I am a law student, therefore, anything that involves using my hand or non-law muscles is beneath me." If you do those things, you won't hurt for extra money.

My friend works as a GSI/TA and has all her tuition fees covered. She is basically going to law school for free. It requires 20 hours of work a week though, but she was able to secure a position in a department outside of her undergraduate major.

In fairness, I'm just one ordinary poster and I knew how worthless my demand would be.
