I am a 1L who secured a summer internship with an SDNY judge. I just heard from a 2nd Circuit judge I had applied to some time ago. I am already spoken for this summer. However, I am considering asking about a fall-term internship (I go to school in NYC). Would an internship with the 2nd Circuit be redundant (both in terms of my experience and its resume value)?

to OP. dunno. you'd probably get asked a lot "why two internships?" would you get school credit at least? if not, that idea's a stinker

Not redundant. I did an internship with the District Court for D.C. and also one at the Second Circuit. Different experiences, and it helped me in interviews by saying that I had made a conscious decision to get experience with the federal trial and appeals systems (which fit into my larger plan to be a litigator). Not to mention, the experience that you will get at both places is very useful, if for no other reason that you see the work that clerks do at each level so you can make a more informed decision about that option down the road. I thought it was a lot of fun to intern in both a federal trial and appellate court - the district court was much more fast paced, in the trenches-type work where you got to see lawyers and litigants in action all the time, whereas the COA was much slower paced, more academic, and a more "sterile" environment removed from the litigants.
