Has anyone ever been this poor?

So I was just filling out a Fafsa and I couldnt help but laugh to/at myself. I spent all of last year looking for a job, couldn't find anything I liked and have literally been sitting at home not doing much. I taught myself some programming and built a website or two and thought about turning one into a business but never did. Finally, around sept. decided I would sign up for the LSAT and did fine. End of the story, I have $0 in assets, and $79 in the bank. I got off lucky and my parents paid the loan payments for UG for me in the meantime. Has anyone been this poor? What are the Fafsa reviewers going to tell me?

^^^ That is a good point. So has anyone who has gotten into a t10 law school ever been this poor?

lol@not being able to find a job you "liked."

They're going to say you are a little bitch for making mommy and daddy pay for your UG, while you sat at home alternating between internet pron and 360.

Well when I say "liked", I mean a job that wasn't working at Border's Bookshop for $8 an hour. I did that in high school and chose to at least enjoy my days programming/looking for a job over that. And ha, I wish I had 360, obviously you missed something. I have $79 in the bank, I couldnt even afford Xbox live for very long. As for internet porn, sure, what else did I have to do?

It's not really poor if you have someone to pay your bills and feed you...

If I revealed how much debt I have combining my mortgage, cars, soon-to-add student loans, etc, you'd consider yourself rich. If you have 0 dollars you're not that poor. Debt - that's the real biotch.

+1. How did you get your health insurance (if you have any)? I was unemployed when I finished grad school, but I had no one to mooch off of, so although I tutored here and there and sold anything I owned that someone might pay me for, I often cut it very close- having $3-10 in the bank after paying my (cheap) rent and my medical bills (I stopped taking my medicine during this time- it was a bad idea).

You don't sound poor. You sound like you have a pretty cushy, if somewhat cashless, life.

Hmm, I obviously didn't make this sound right. UG isthe only bill they paid for me and I mentioned it because if you default on education bills it disqualifies you (sometimes) from recieving any federal aid. In the meantime I have defaulted on other bills, and aside from that they don't do anything the state wouldn't do for me otherwise. Literally, I have a room and some food.

Dude let me tell you a story, bank account is overdrawn. No job. All loans deffered cept 1 and Im past due on that and cant pay. I cant even pay to send my law school applications out. Cell phone is about to get cut off. Car is fucked and get afford to get it fixed. Still cant find a job. Terminally ill parent. One works but still that doesn even cover the cost of our bills. And we live frugal.

Feel better yet?

We understand. But the fact that you think a room and some food is nothing makes me feel like you don't know what it means to be poor. I work my ass off for just that room and some food, and it's probably no where as nice as the room you have in your parents house (a family would never want to live where I do). I'm not trying to whine, because I know a lot of people are going through this. But you're clearly not one of them. Enjoy it- you're lucky.

I dont have health insurance. I actually went to the hospital the other day because I got a concussion and I don't know what the hell I am doing with that bill. I have to negotiate down to something below $100, and the bill is $2700. Plus, if i had anything to sell I would.

If the situation is really that bad, why are you being picky about jobs? Are you physically unable to work? Believe me, I know it's bad out there- but if you are willing to take anything there is work.

They save you from the indignity of having to go wait in those lines with real poor people. If you pass up a job because you think it's below you you're not poor.

Oh and people, I am not claiming I am the poorest person ever. I understand there are people are hundreds of thousands in debt with no job. What I am asking, is what aid they will give me. So does anyone know?

You did ask if there was anyone this poor in the t-10.

Anyhow, need based aid is going to depend on your age or other factors that would determine independence from your parents. Also, if you have any accounts in collection, you cannot get fed loans without a cosigner.

It depends on the school. It depends on how wealthy your parents are much moreso than yourself -- most incoming law students start dirt poor.

This doesn't sound accurate. I am considered an independent and my parents financials are not necessary for me to fill it out.

your parents financials are going to be something law schools will ask for until youre 30, in some cases. and in your case, you're not actually an independent. i mean...you still live with them.

I call this lazy and unmotivated. Poor is simply a byproduct of your being absolutely useless. Law school won't fix this, FYI. After you graduate, you'll still be lazy and unmotivated. The only thing that will change is your debt load.

This thread is a line up of people who saw that I sarcastically called myself the poorest person in a t10 in order to find out what aid I could get and used it as an opportunity to call me lazy and somehow 'rich', and on top of that didn't answer my question.
