Top Law Schools

I have been pretty shocked by how little reading there is per class. Just curious if this is the case at other schools. I realize that classes differ a lot and some classes have sessions that are longer. So let's just say, how many pages average per hour of class time.

People always overstate the number of pages because they want laymen to understand the amount of time, so they basically apply the law school handicap to it, ex. 20 pages of "Constitutional Law" reading = 50 pages of "The Great Gatsby."

Rarely is there more than 20-30 for a class. Often it's in the 15-20 range. But it takes forever. At least it takes me forever, because I'm neurotic.

In my section, it is probably somewhere in the 30-40 page region, although we usually end up with 50+ at least once per week.

Contracts = 15-20
Crim = 20-30
Torts = 10-15
CivPro = 10-15

law school assignments tend not to be that heavy. it's the competition that motivates people.

at my school:
Ks= 15-20
Torts= 25-30
Con. Law= 35-45
Crim. law = <35
Property = 15
Civil Procedure =30
International Law =20-30

CivPro: 15-20
Torts: 5-60 (don't... ask.)
Contracts: 15-25
Conlaw: 15-20
Crim: 15-20
Property: 15-20 + assigned supp reading

The problem isn't reading it - the problem is reading it carefully enough so that a) the legal principle sets in, and b) you know enough so you don't get embarrassed during cold-calls. B (cold call embarrassment) hasn't been of that great concern to a lot of folks on TLS, esp. those who focus far less on case briefing than the trad. law student would - in which case, you'd spend a lot less time doing your 15 pages of reading.

The median was probably below 20, but my Con Law professor sadistically assigned ~40 pages per class, and my Crim professor thought we would get "confused" if she didn't assign entire chapters at a time.
