I got a Dean's Scholarship but they haven't yet told me how much it's for! As far as federal loans go, I've already done the MPN/applications on studentloans.gov. I recommend doing that ASAP in order to avoid any problems once school starts.

Haha that's for sure. I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty worried about this whole Socratic method thing... especially since so much of the advice on tls says to not worry much about briefing every case even if it means you're not as prepared for class as you could be. How will I ever convince my type A self to not brief every single case for the next three years?

A friend who recently graduated at the top of his class from a T14 suggested that you brief every case the first year and then once the process is more ingrained, it's easier to pick and choose which cases to brief. He said it's better (and faster) to do short, concise briefs for every case rather than long briefs for select cases. Since I have pretty much no experience, I'm going to try his way first

Short and concise, that's what I like to hear audc! Sounds like solid advice, so thanks for sharing. And merc, I will most likely be using the $650 they give us, seeing as how buying them 'on my own' is next to impossible with my total lack of money.
And question - Perhaps I'm overlooking something here, but do we need a meningitis shot? The paperwork they sent us seems to only refer to freshmen residing on campus or international transfer students. It's a pretty expensive shot that I'm willing to risk not getting if I don't really need it...

If I understood the Student Health Center correctly when I called last week, all students residing on campus must get the Meningitis vaccine. Even the PT evening law students (myself included) will have to get it by the Spring semester.

They gave me a deans scholorship too, but it wasnt for much, and had a stringent stipulation. I called the school and got my loan stuff sorted out. Turns out I had done the MPN like back in March.
St. Mary's 2L here. A majority of the 1L class gets the Dean's Scholarship with the top 10% contingency just because the school knows that not everyone can make it -- does that make sense? I personally think it's the dumbest thing.

This depends on the professor you're with as I've experienced. Marks, our contracts professor, required everyone to brief every case to be covered in class that day during the first semester. He dropped this during the second semester tho.

merc280 wrote:Are you guys buying books on your own or using the $650 that St. Mary gives the option of doing?
Expect to go over that $650 allowance. My 1L I spent close to a grand buying books - majority of them were used, i think i only bought 2 new.
If anyone's interested I have pretty much all my 1L books with the exception of my CivPro book (but I do have a CivPro and ConLaw supp) if yall already have a book list I can see if I have the ones you need.
