I have a dog so i'm hoping to find a roommate that has a dog as well, but there is no roommate finder or specific system of finding housing.
The housing close to the school looks super expensive. Im not from DC so I would prefer something within walking distance

Yeah I've been looking into apartments outside of DC that relatively close proximity to metro stops.

Hello all! I sent in my seat deposit and received an email confirming receipt. I heard there is supposed to be a student "meet and greet" on April 15th, but I have not received an official invite yet...have any of you?

For those seeking housing, I have lived in DC since 2002 and I can tell you anything near the law school is going to be expensive if you do not have a roommate. An alternative is moving to Maryland which is much cheaper and is actually what most people do.
I happen to live only about 10 minutes from the law school if driving but that is only because I locked in a good deal some years ago. You all may also want to try Craigslist, but make sure to come see the place before you commit!

HI!
I have not heard about anything, how did you hear? by calling the office? I hope if there is something they let us know in advance so we can plan a trip down there. Also I heard silver springs is nice and a pretty easy commute.

I heard through the grapevine from a current HU Law student...my connect only told me there is suppose to be something for new student son the 15th but before I mark that date on my calendar, I should wait to receive a more formal invite that will include details.
You also have to understand that this is a "black" school and though I LOVE the HU brand (I attended HU for undergrad), there are often times "issues" in communicating with the administrative offices, i.e. Office of Financial Aid, Office of Admissions, etc.
If I hear anything regarding an event on the 15th, I will post it here.

Sooo...I just spoke with the Office of Admissions and nothing like an "Admitted Students Day" has been planned. The person I spoke to said there will more than likely been an event for admitted students, but no date has been set.
Sooo...it looks like my "connect" lied!!! LOL!

Is any one planning to go down to check out housing in May? I saw some nice places that I would like to visit in person.

I live in DC, so if you need any suggestions on areas for housing, feel free to ask me...especially if you want to know if something is near the metro (subway).

How is the commute frm downtown silver springs? The apts there are in my price range but im just nervous it would take 45 to an hour to get to class... kinda like in NY where they say its 10 mins on the subway but it always turns out to be 40 mins.

Driving from Silver Spring, in rush hour I would say about 30 mins. If there is no traffic, then about 15 minutes. If you take the train it would take about 30 mins. All that to say, it is actually very close to the school...probably only about 5 miles away, BUT in a city like DC, traffic can make places seem a great distance away.

When did you guys apply and when did you receive your decisions?
Also does Howard have an application checker? I applied in March and have no idea where I stand with them.

No, they do not have an application checker. You should call the Admissions office to check, but only if six weeks have already passed. When I applied, I received my decision almost exactly six weeks later. Also, they should have sent you an email once they received your application explaining the process for checking on your application. Did you not receive that email?

Same here, there was no status checker but i received my decision exactly 6 weeks later.
What are your stats if you don't mind me asking?

Would you say that commuting from the Silver Springs Metro to the school everyday is reasonable?
