Any idea when classes actually start? When does orientation usually take place?

Here's the academic calendar. Orientation doesn't start till Aug 30. Seems like we start/finish fall semester kind of late. Last day of exams is only two days before Christmas Eve.

I'm thinking a cheap studio/1br.
Have you seen PadMapper? A current student at the U told me about it, and it's awesome. It takes all the craigslist apartment listings and plots them out on Google maps. You might have some luck there.

Tropicalpeach- I got a studio at the Lake Calhoun City Apartments as well and will be moving in around the beginning of August. I really liked the feel of these apartments and the location.

That's great! I haven't visited them yet, but plan to come to Minneapolis in July sometime to sign the lease, etc. I'm putting down a reservation soon, though. I'm excited to see Minneapolis for the first time without snow!jbjlaw wrote:Tropicalpeach- I got a studio at the Lake Calhoun City Apartments as well and will be moving in around the beginning of August. Are you buying a Murphy bed somewhere or are you going with the regular bed in the studio?

Re: University of Minnesota Class of 2014
I'm looking for a female roommate who is interested in joining me and 3 other girls in a 5 bedroom house about a 15 minute walk from the law school. 2 of the girls in the house are my current roommates (who will not be at the law school). I've already talked to another law student about the fourth spot, but we really need to find a fifth person. It's a really pretty house in a nice, quiet and safe neighborhood. Rent is $540 a month each, plus heat and electric. Internet, cable, water and garbage are paid by the landlord. Message me if you're interested!

Thanks for the link - certainly does seem late. I wouldn't mind getting, or 'purchasing,' my laptop prior than the week before classes. Oh well, I guess.kjadkins wrote:

I'm probably going to keep mine and use it for personal stuff, it already has all of my music and stuff so it'll just be easier to keep using that to sync my iphone and such. It's been kind of on the fritz lately so I'll be using the school one for anything semi-important. It's a 4 year old bottom-of-the-line macbook, so I doubt anyone would buy it anyway.eve2490 wrote:I am curious, will you guys be holding on to your personal laptops?? I don't want to let go of my beloved Macbook Pro just yet, but I don't need to have 2 laptops. Selling my Mac will help level out the cost of getting the Lenovo anywayweber35 wrote:Thanks for the link - certainly does seem late. I'm definitely keeping mine. I'm going to use it for class, etc. I'm only bringing the ibm brick for exams. No need to carry that thing back and forth every day

Re: University of Minnesota Class of 2014
The class schedule has been posted for next year (although I haven't seen any information about sections, and am guessing we won't until orientation). http://law.umn.edu/current/courseschedules.html
Looks like we have 15 credits in the fall (Civ Pro, Contracts, Con Law, Torts) and 17 in the spring (Property, Crim, elective, Practice & Professionalism, Legal Writing and Statutory Interpretation). Kind of surprised it was split up this way as I expected them to split the 6 required doctrinal classes evenly between the two semesters. Seems like fall will be tougher than I expected, while spring will probably be a bit easier.
Edit: Actually, it looks like legal writing is offered both semesters. Not sure what to make of that.

My current laptop is six years old, putting me in a tight spot right now. Under normal circumstances, I would have replaced it by now, but now I'm just waiting till Aug. 30 to scrap it.
@FourOnTheFloor: The way I under stand it, Legal Writing in the fall is a pass/fail one credit class. I believe the spring is a full three credit class (not sure about P/F). It should make for an even 16/16 split between the semesters though. That's assuming they haven't changed it.

Yeah that's the way I understood it as well. 16/16 with a 1 credit pass/fail legal writing class first semester.weber35 wrote:My current laptop is six years old, putting me in a tight spot right now. Wow! I thought I was going to be getting in early moving on the first of August. We'll definitely need a TLS meetup sometime in August. A pre-orientation orientation.

Yep! We should get coffee or something over the summer. I'd love to get to know some classmates before the school year starts.tessakate6 wrote:I will be moving in June 1st. You'll be downtown, right? When are you moving in? I'll be there in about three weeks!
Also, my boyfriend and I would definitely be willing to host a TLS social at our apartment if you all want to have a few drinks and get to know each other sometime in Aug before school starts!

Re: University of Minnesota Class of 2014
I'm hoping on moving up there at least a couple weeks beofre the start of school.
As much as I'd love to up and quit my job(s) and move there now, it's simply not feasible.
