Hey.... I didn't see this thread before i created my own. Like Ivyhopeful said, Notre Dame is a dream school for me as well so i'm extremely excited about starting in the fall.

If you have any questions about ND, I'm a Double Domer (currently a 1L) and will try to do the best I can answering.

Hey, this is my first post!!! i just got into ND and will most likely be attending... I had a few questions and i was wondering if there was anyone out there who could help me out.
1) Is a car necessary on campus?
2) Which dining plan seems most fitting? (I'm a pretty little girl though, doubtful I'll be gobbling down too much)
3) Is the law school building really in walking distance from ND's graduate housing? I was looking at the camous map and relative distances aren't really discernable.

I'd love to know the answer to question one as well. However, i do know that Fischer is only about a 15 minute walk from the LS.

thanks! 15 minutes is nothing... so that kind of helps with my first question. i'm from long island where a car is mandatory so I'm at a loss when it comes to transportation outside of the tri state area.
btw, i'm suprised there aren't more people responding to this thread... let's get some Irish spirit here!

Agreed... in ND's admit package they mentioned cabs quite a bit, but only in reference to weekend bar nights (i loved their frank attitude) so i'm not sure if they were merely encouraging safe partying or alluding to the lack of need for a car on campus

I'd recommend a car even if you live in Fischer, though it won't be help for getting to class since there aren't any parking facilities that much closer (and it costs $100 for a permit to the C lot). That 15 minutes seems a lot longer once it gets to be December and you're trudging across campus in 4 feet of snow and sub-zero wind chills, but parking in C lot only decreases walk time by 5-6 minutes so I wouldn't recommend it. If you're off campus (unless maybe at the Foundry in Eddy Street Commons, directly south of campus), you absolutely need a car.
By the way, I'm from Long Island as well, welcome to ND!

Thanks for the info and the warm welcome... being from LI, this may be a ridiculous question, but how did you get your car there? did you road trip it or obtain your car in indiana? i was planning on applying for university housing at least for the first year and a car is a cumbersome added cost to an already expensive educational experience; but if its necessary...

ndirish, can you speak to the employment situation at notre dame? i'm curious about both summer associate and full-time employment. lately, i've heard that employers are scarce around nd compared to years past, and this makes it difficult for students to find work.

I went here undergrad and I have been driving out here ever since, just once in August and once in May...when I go home I either get people to pick me up to go places or borrow my parents' car. You can probably buy a car much cheaper out here though.
ND still has significant OCI, though for sure it's not the way it was in the boom years. I'm not too close with any 2Ls or 3Ls but if you're in the top quarter or top 1/3 you should manage to find something at OCI. 1L summer is a different story, I am pretty sure I'll be taking it down to the wire to find an externship with a judge. Firm hiring is nearly non-existent for 1Ls. Don't come here if you're absolutely set on BigLaw or if you won't be happy practicing somewhere in the Midwest, but it is possible to get to either coast if you're near the top of the class. A friend of mine's brother was on Law Review in the class of 2009 and is now an associate at Cravath, so it does happen.

Thanks, I appreciate it, I will probably need it. If you or anyone ever has any questions feel free to PM me, or if you're coming out here to visit I'd be happy to give an abbreviated tour of SB (only the good parts) and the campus.

Also a 1L.
The walk from Fischer (grad housing) to the Law School (Eck) is approximately 15-20min depending on the individual.
I know very few people with meal plans - as in 2 double-domers and 1 other. There's a variety of ways to go - if you're a competent cook, brown-bagging your lunch may be the way to go. There is a little cafe in the commons that makes scones for the mornings and sandwiches for lunch and has things like clif bars/chips/sodas/etc. The dining halls are also about 5-7 min away from the law school, which isn't a negative but merely something to consider.
I drove here. 1,000mi drive, kind of a fun experience.
As for employment, I'm not sure as to how to speak to that truthfully. I suppose I will know in about 2 weeks.

has everyone filled out their FASFA? Not sure how important it is to get that priority review in by tomorrow.

I did, but I never filled out that supplemental financial aid form that was attached to their application. The way they made it sound, it was only for people in
dire financial need, but I've heard elsewhere that if you want need-based grants then it was pretty important. Not sure what to think, or if it's still too late.

I'm going to bump this because ND has suddenly come into the picture as one of my top choices. Who's definitely going to be there this fall?
