I hope you got a big scholarship, because it will take you 50 years to pay off your debt if you pay sticker and do PI after grad
yeah... except that if you do PI, your loans are forgiven after 10 years. even if you don't do PI, you can do income-based repayment, never paying more than 15% of your income, and after 25 years of that, your loans get forgiven. and if you go to American and do PI, your loans for those 10 years will be fully covered by their LRAP program if you make up to 50K, sliding scale from 50K-75K.

but thanks for your "informed" opinion, egor2510! very helpful!

Deposit officially in, and grad plus loan approved. I am officially a member of the class of 2014!!!!

Now onto housing, anyone looking for a roommate, I will finish my internship on July 23, so I am presumably looking for an Aug 1st move in date.

I thought I read somewhere that we should wait until May 1 to apply for grad plus loan -- I guess that's not the case? Details on that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I applied for grad plus, but it told me it couldn't verify my information. It sent my app to the school. Lets see what happens.

Putting my deposit down tomorrow when I get paid (yea I'm a boss like that).

Does anyone have a link or info re: 2nd semester elective courses? I remember seeing the list but I can't find it anymore. Just curious!

Thanks.

laurencita, I applied for and was approved for a grad plus loan 2 days ago. I then called the financial aid office to follow up on it and nothing they said insinuated there was a problem with me filing this early. The only thing is that I will not get a refund until the 1st day of classes (which is pretty standard). Me applying for my grad plus loan is what spurred dink3500 to go ahead with his this early in the cycle. So I'm positive it's fine. Hope this helps!

Got that in the mail two days ago. Now they just need to keep sending me free stuff. I mean, they've got my $900 so I'd better get something out of them, right?

I have the same question. What is a good way to apartment search? I live in Texas so I am not sure if I can take a trip.
The best way is to wait until you're there. Crash with a friend or get a hotel for a few nights.

Then, use your smartphone and hit craigslist hard. Get a standard email to send to people w/o phone numbers, and immediately call people who are listed.

Turn up 20 minutes early to your apppointment, preferably with cash or a check for the first three or four months' rent. Be presentable, and practice your story about why you're the perfect roomate.

AUWCL is somewhat surburban, but not too much. The metro is a 15 minute walk or five minute bus ride. If you get a bike, you'll be in great condition.

There are a few large apartment complexes in the area. You'll also find lots of houses - many of them will rent a room out and are listed on craigslist.

If you want to be close, look for places in Cleveland Park, Tenleytown and Friendship Heights.

I've moved to DC a few times and never spent more than two days finding an apartment. I've ended up with a great pad everytime at a pretty good price. You just have to hit the streets hard and make it happen.

This doesnt work well for people that have children and/or pets.

Yeah, besides the fact that I'm not going to be able to just show up with $3000 in hand. I am going to the housing conference though and my roommate will meet me there and we'll just go look for a few days.

Just a suggestion. From experience, I can tell you my advice will get the best place at the best price - hands down.

Given your limitations, you might want to check out Tunlaw in advance. You can sometimes make a deal in advance without being in DC.

Good luck.

Tons, and all with that Jersey or Long Island accent.

They`re really desperate to find men, too, as AU is called `Gay Jew` for a reason.

It`s a straight man`s dream.

The my.wcl message board that they set up for us is how I found my roommates for next year.

That's how I found my roommates too. I posted a message and then someone got back to me, and then she posted a message and some people got back to her and we talked a bunch and chose from there. I could imagine guys would be less willing to engage in these types of things. Lol.

I'm going to the housing conference, but I'm a female with roommates already haha...so I guess the fact that I am going isn't the most helpful of information. :)

Good luck though you guys!
