Transfer odds HLS, CLS NYU?

Post by lshopeful17 » Wed Mar 17, 2021 5:44 pm

Seriously considering transferring from a T25 school into HLS, Columbia or NYU. Wondering what my prospects might be?

3.8 GPA from the fall, top 15% of class (based on what I found online I’m probably in the 7-8% range).

Involved in some clubs but minimal
Leadership positions because I wanted focus on grades

IMO, assuming you maintain that GPA in the second semester:
• NYU: decent shot
• CLS: stretch, but not out of the realm of possibility
• HLS: unlikely

That's just my reading of the 509s. For transfers, you sometimes hear that NYU prefers students from highly-ranked schools and has slightly softer GPA expectations vs. HLS & CLS are relatively indifferent about school rank (i.e., will go all the way down to T100) but want to see really high GPA (as close to 4.0 as possible).

Since you can check the 509s and see where each school is drawing transfers from, I'll let you draw your own conclusions on whether that's true or not. If true, somebody with your profile (3.8 + T25) would be the type of candidate that NYU is looking for. Clubs and leadership positions etc. are of minimal importance.
