The GPA percentiles have gone up significantly. NYU is the same. Does anybody know what the reason is behind this? Is it because transferring has gotten more competitive? Or, did Columbia and NYU shift their focuses to higher GPA/lower ranked schools? Would love to hear ideas. Thanks.

It may be because transfers' success at on-campus recruiting programs still depends how well they did at their former schools.

In other words, the CLS/NYU degree functions as a strong "soft," but you're still evaluated as if you're a Fordham or GW student, or w/e.

I think this is spot on. I think the better the school you attend, the lower your GPA can be. I think a lot of lower tiered schools probably spike up the medians because Columbia/NYU isn't going to take a T3 or T4 unless they are at the very top of their class (and still might not even take them then).
