Is there any reason that GPA has ticked upward significantly for transfers to NYU/Columbia

If you look at Columbia last year: https://www.law.columbia.edu/sites/defa ... -39-30.pdf
Versus Columbia in 2016: https://www.law.columbia.edu/sites/defa ... -34-01.pdf
The GPA percentiles have gone up significantly. NYU is the same. Does anybody know what the reason is behind this? Is it because transferring has gotten more competitive? Or, did Columbia and NYU shift their focuses to higher GPA/lower ranked schools? Would love to hear ideas. Thanks.
