Chances at Berkeley?

Hi all,

Wondering if I have a shot at Berkeley with these stats:

GPA:3.73
Class Ranking: Top 10%
School: Santa Clara (~107)

My school is going mandatory P/F.

My goal is to go into academia/clerkship, I am not particularly interested in biglaw. I would prefer to stay in California and haven't really researched other schools yet, but I welcome recommendations if any.

Thanks for the advice, and cold truth.

I think it is a relative long shot, just based off of their 509, but something that might raise your confidence is I am going to apply to Berkeley as well for transferring and have a slightly lower GPA haha so you're not too off target.

It's worth applying, and I think your odds are roughly 50-50, maybe slightly worse. But for what it's worth, transferring to non-YSH and attempting to make academia happen will be difficult, even if you get there and outperform your peers and make law review and get a good clerkship and publish well. Without most or all of those hurdles cleared, legal academia's nearly impossible for someone in your position. Also, transfers are generally handicapped for clerkships to the extent target judges are school snobs and ESPECIALLY if your grades post-transfer are much worse.
