Writing teacher died... Pass/fail for transferring

My writing professor passed away this week unexpectedly. The school was not prepared at all for this, and is throwing away one of the assignments we already did. Our appellate brief that we had just started is now worth 50% of our grade, and we have no guidance or feedback, with a new teacher grading it (we aren't allowed to bother that teacher with questions).
They're letting us opt for pass/fail. Will having a pass instead of a grade affect transfers? Last semester it was my lowest grade (B+) but I still ended up being #2 in the class. I'm pretty worried about the grading of the new professor / the ability to wing it on a brief worth 50% of our grade.
That will be 2 credits out of a total of 29. I know some schools require 28/29 credits but am not sure how pass fail plays into that.
What do I do??? Looking at t14 schools.
