Top Law Schools

Hello, I currently go to a low law ranking law school (like in the 100's). I knew I wanted to transfer as soon as I got accepted, but I was in such a rush to enter law school, so I disregarded the rank. Now, I see why it is ranked so low! I need to get out a.s.a.p. I want to transfer to law schools in D.C. Specifically, Georgetown law center, American, and George Mason. What advice can anyone give to someone DESPERATELY wanting to transfer. Most importantly what GPA is required for those schools. I need to leave because the standard of education is so below average, that I am worried. Also it is in a terrible location. Disclaimer: Please, I know that I should have thought about all of this before accepting, but mistakes happen. Please help!

Focus on maximizing your law school GPA, and on getting to know your profs. A strong 1L GPA, and strong LORs from your 1L profs, will be the be-all and end-all of your transfer application. So not too much to do right now except buckle down and work hard.

For what GPA you'll need to have a realistic shot at transferring up, pull up the data on http://abarequireddisclosures.org/Disclosure509.aspx for the past few years for the schools you're interested in. You'd want to have a GPA > their 50% to have a good shot (keeping in mind that this number may fluctuate from year to year, which is why I recommend looking at the 509 forms for the past few years).
