Where does this notion come from? I think if you are aiming at transferring, you are more likely to work really hard in you 1L. Can't the plan to tranfer be a good motivation in your 1L?

Again, wrong forum. We have a forum called "Ask a Law Student/Graduate," which has covered this subject ad nauseum.

Because 1) you should already be motivated to work really hard 1L; 2) your motivation is not determinative of how you do in law school. You're graded on a curve in a class full of people who scored very close to you on GPA and LSAT, who are all also motivated to do well; and 3) you should only enroll at a school you are willing to graduate from. So there's no need to think about transferring until you know it's a realistic possibility.
