Top Law Schools

Hi, I am a rising 2L at a midwestern law school ranked somewhere between 40-60. I have applied to transfer to Northwestern, UChicago and Georgetown. I was accepted to Georgetown and Northwestern, but have ruled out Georgetown at this point. I applied ED at UChicago, interviewed and was wait listed. I have a good summer associate position and a background in mechanical engineering, however, I do not think I want to stay in my current city. If I get into Uchicago I will take it, but I am a little more concerned about Northwestern. I have a dozen solid bids at the Loyola Patent fair but do not know what that will translate to. I think I want to end up in Chicago, but am not sure yet.

I will be leaving behind law review, nearly full scholarship, and a decent network. I will gain a more respected school, better OCI opportunities etc but a lot of debt. I am leaning towards going, but would be mad if I took on extra debt to end up at the same place. Is there anyone on here who went through something similar? Thanks!!

OP i'm in a semi similar situation as you! Really interested to see what upperclass transfers have to say about this kind of a situation. Btw i withdrew from Chicago a few days ago so hopefully that helps you

Also, does NW or Chicago allow transfers to compete for Law Review or journals? Cuz if so you might still get a chance to be on some sort of publication and that will help off-set giving up Law Review at your current school. My personal opinion is that since you don't want to stay in your current city, that decent network you have right now won't be of much help to you. With Law Review and network crossed off the list, we are left with near-full scholarship. So really your choice comes down to whether you want to take on more debt to jump 40 ranks up.
