Transfer Impasse: UT vs CCN/B

Trying to decide between UT versus CCN or UC Berkeley.

UT: Zero debt

Berkeley: 90-100k debt

Chicago: 95k debt

Columbia/NYU: 110k debt

Goals: Practice in TX or NY (prefer TX, but wouldn't mind starting out in NY). e: Also want to keep the opportunity of a clerkship open (current school places very badly for this)

Stats: Top 2% @ T1 in TX.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

What is the big law placement of your current school? My guess is you're a lock for it, so transferring doesn't make a lot of sense.

I agree with above. I wouldn't transfer unless you have a specific personal need to be in Austin right now. Based on the fact you're deciding between UT/CCN/Cal, it would appear that's not the case. I would vote stay at SMU/UH/Baylor.

e: I suppose if you're at SMU/Baylor at sticker, transferring to UT would make a little sense from a $$ perspective.

I don't like my current school and I would prefer to be in Austin (if I'm going to go to school in TX) due to family/friends.

Fair enough. What is the actual COA for each school? Just talking about what your debt will be ignores the fact that you're also depleting your current capital to a certain extent.

CoA/debt for UT = zero

CoA/debt for the others are listed above. Living expenses will be taken care of. Only thing I have to worry about is tuition/books/other random school fees.

e: Meant to do anon reply, oops.

UT.

No student loans = getting to put the money you would be using to make your student loan payments into investment/ retirement accounts.

Not too concerned about the debt, as I'm pretty froogle. Will the other degrees (CCN/Boalt) give me more leeway in the future with exit options/lateraling?

Typos happen. OP got into all of CCN, that's more than I've done in life so far.

Also, it's a thing.
