I am looking to stay in my current state to practice after school. Going to a fine, low T2 school, looking to transfer way up to the better in-state school. I sent an email with some questions to the better school. I get a response several days later, telling me to look at the school's transfer student information page. This is the page I have looked at about once a week for a year. I had outstanding questions that were not answered on that general page.

I feel completely blown off with my first contact with a potential transfer school. How much should I put into that?

While the possible transfer school is better, it isn't necessarily that much better for staying in this state. So when I do not get a good response from the potential transfer school, it gives me less of a reason to leave my current school/grades/prospects behind.

I don't really k ow your situation, but I wouldn't make a transfer decision based on an email that upset you.

Make it based on numbers, employment, debt, etc. Things that matter in the long run.

They're probably just super busy wrapping up regular admissions. Honestly, don't pay any attention to it, and I would definitely not make my decision based on one interaction with a person in admissions.

Also, don't let 1 person in the admissions office significantly influence your decision.. That person could be having a bad day or not representative of the school's administration..

Admissions people don't give a shit about people who haven't been accepted, it's their job


edit: if someone at H gave u a bad email would that mean going to H is a bad thing? (added context)

Also remember that, as a transfer, you need them wayyyyy more than they need you. It's not like 1L admissions where if you have a 180/4.0 schools will be trying to make you commit. Transfers are basically just disposable money for schools, and, assuming this is a school <worth> transferring to, if you turn them down, a dozen more schmucks will be standing in line to pay them sticker price. And so what if those other 12 people's numbers are worse?

Keep pursuing the school if you want it.

Perhaps you can lurk on the school specific transfer thread or reach out to current students to get your questions answered.

Don't you think that's an over-exaggeration? I don't think it's too much for OP to expect to be treated at least politely. It's not hard for an admissions counselor to answer basic questions that they should already know off the top of their head.

Who pays their salaries? Last time I checked, we do.

Well, no.

Should they be polite? Yes. Should a person get really upset if one of them isn't polite? No. People need to have thicker skin and get over the whole special snowflake syndrome. Plus, there's a very real question as to whether or not the person in admissions wasn't actually polite. You can direct them to that page in a polite manner. It's possible that OP just took it as a personal affront because he believed his questions weren't answered on that page and assumed the person in admissions was implying that he didn't read the page by directing him there.

And it's likely that whoever answered the phone is just a part time student worker anyway, and not an admissions counselor
