Planning on applying to H,S,C,C, and Penn. Really hoping for H/S, but I know that those are slim pickings...would be thrilled with Columbia or Chicago.
Good luck to everyone! I am excited to see how we all do!

Depending on how 2nd semester grades come out I may apply to NYU as well...hesitant because I have heard unenthusiastic reviews from the only two NYU alum I know (I know that I am foolish for making a decision on such a small sample size).Joscellin wrote:Columbia, Chicago, and Penn, but not NYU?AK135 wrote:Checking in. 3.92 at T1 in the low 40's. Quick quetion: is it safe to assume that, if the last year's top 10% was 3.61 at my school, it will be about this same number?

Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
It depends on the school and the year. Ours has varied recently within about .06 total, so it's relatively consistent. But you never know which end it will swing, nor which end it swung last year. If 3.61 was a little low last year, it wouldn't be totally shocking if it was 3.67 or 3.68 this year.clshopeful wrote:Quick quetion: is it safe to assume that, if the last year's top 10% was 3.61 at my school, it will be about this same number?

Just curious - What kind of grades do you need to transfer from Berkeley to Stanford?

Google search "Stanford 2015 509" and look at transfer GPAs and the schools they came from

Right I saw that there were 5 students from Berkeley last year. But the issue is that we don't have any letter grades here so I am hoping for a more Berkeley specific answer. Like would top 30% at Berkeley be competitive...?

Oh, gotcha. Forgot Berk doesn't do letter grades. I don't think top 30% is good enough (but I dont really know, I'm just a 1L at a TT). Stanford is like the hardest to transfer into -- usually it's like top 5% that is needed. There is the "2015 Transfer" on the transfer forum [at the top] says 2 people transferred from this forum -- one who didnt give his rank, and the other went to Chicago or Columbia or NYU (just says CCN) and was top 2%

3.95 at lower T14, thinking about H or Y. Yale is Yale, and I have personal ties to Boston so would enjoy living there. That said, I have big money on the table here, so I'm pretty undecided at this point.

Great GPA... definitely a solid shot at H or Y. Good job!JustMe83 wrote:3.95 at lower T14, thinking about H or Y. Yale is Yale, and I have personal ties to Boston so would enjoy living there. That said, I have big money on the table here, so I'm pretty undecided at this point.

3.82 from a T20 first semester. 2 CALIs. Any chance I could transfer into a school like Penn or Columbia/NYU? I know HYS is out of the question. I'm worried my grades could drop a bit second semester and leave me with no shot, but really want Big Law on the East Coast. Just looking for opinions to see if I'd be wasting my money applying.

Hi...I am trying to transfer to H with a first semester 4.0 from a CCN...what're my chances? Worried because there are very few people listed as transferring into H from my school on the 509s for the last 2 years

Assuming you don't have some terrible C&F issue forcing you to transfer, you're in. H would accept a 4.0 from a T1 school. A 4.0 from CCN is pretty much a lock.transferhopeful2147 wrote:Hi...I am trying to transfer to H with a first semester 4.0 from a CCN...what're my chances? The better question is...why transfer with a 4.0 from a CCN?

What are your post grad aspirations? If you want biglaw, then this wouldn't be the smartest transfertransferhopeful2147 wrote:I really don't like the school I'm attending, unfortunately.lawman84 wrote:Assuming you don't have some terrible C&F issue forcing you to transfer, you're in. He (or she) will get biglaw either ways. Depends on how much extra debt would be taken on when determining if it's an objectively good decision but if he doesn't like his current school, I can understand why he'd want to transfer.Nebby wrote:What are your post grad aspirations? Re: 2016 1L Transfer Thread
Hi!
One of the schools i'm considering transferring offers some acceptances based on fall semester grades and has rolling admissions. Their site says 2 LORs are needed but they can be the ones used for our original law school applications. I'd like to apply as soon as possible and not wait for the LOR, but don't want to jeopardize my chances.
Any suggestions on whether I should go ahead now with the app or hold out for the LORs?
I think I have a fairly solid shot at the school based on grades. My GPA from fall is higher than their 75% IL GPA from last year's 509.
Thanks!

3.88 first semester (rank is #12 out of 285) at T20 school.
This semester's grades should be just as good or better.
Any thoughts on Stanford, Columbia or NYU?
Thanks!
