Top Law Schools

I'm still waiting to hear back from three schools - two are a reach, but one of them I think I'm probably right on the border. Should I call and let them know I was offered LR? It could show them that I have good writing skills - especially when my lowest grades were in LRW (albeit only B+s, but still). Thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

Sure, since law review is an academic honor & an academic achievement.

I say tell them, regardless of how you get on.* I don't think you need to call them though. I would simply email an updated resume with a message that says:

Subject: Updated Resume for Transfer Application

Dean [admissions dean]:

Thank you once again for taking the time to review my application for transfer admission. I believe I would be a strong addition to the Target School of Law class of 2018.

Attached is an updated version of my resume reflecting my recent invitation to VineCovered University Law Review.

* (Some people say you should only update them if you write-on, but that if your school has automatic grade-on slots and you get one of those you shouldn't bother, because functionally it's just the same as repeating your class rank. I can see their point, but I also don't think that most admissions offices are going to know exactly which schools have grade-on slots and which don't, or, among those with grade-on, what class rank qualifies for grade-on.)

Yeah, but not everyone does, and I think the point is worth making for posterity sake (for the folks who search old posts for answers).

Also not necessarily. I graded on despite B+'s in LRW (and those weren't my lowest grade). While I didn't apply to any reaches, I certainly could have.

I would let them know, especially if you wrote on. It might increase your chances and will likely not hurt them. I highly doubt a school would be vindictive and pull an acceptance letter just because you updated them on current school LR.

OP here, thanks for the responses all. I actually just realized that I don't know how I got on...I know that they accept some based on grades and some based on the write on competition, but I'm pretty sure my grades weren't high enough to get a spot on their own (I'm around top 12%, and general assumptions are that they only take top 5% for grade-on portion).

I guess I'll email the adcomms. Thanks!
