Asking a school for more time before paying a deposit

Hello all,
I would like to know if any of you has asked for more time before making a decision and laying hour deposit. If so, how did you approach the admissions office anout it?

Literally just send a nice and short email asking them for an extension due to xyz reason.

but basically the reason is me waiting to get off a wait list someone else. I cant say that...So what would be a good reason?

Schools constantly deal with this, but I'll tell you what my friend did (this is the best case scenario that I've heard):
He sent a letter to school A saying that he wanted to wait on school B's response. He then gave a compelling reason why he wanted to wait on school B. Don't say that has anything to do with rank, quality, or something else negative against the school. He said that it was because he wanted to be near his mother who's health wasn't the best. In his case this was true so I'm not advocating lying.
Anyhow, the school made him pay the deposit, but stated that he could wait to sign the letter of intent. He ended up getting rejected from school B and attending school A.
The lesson: school's aren't stupid and they understand the game. You are unlikely to be given an exception, but don't fight it because you may end up going there. Just ask and follow their guidance.

Wow thanks so much! Im definitely just saying the truth. I am not rich so definitely dropping 1000k just like that isnt an option lol
