Top 25% at T-20: CCN or MVP Chances?
Hey all, I was hoping you could weigh in on my chances of getting into the following schools. I missed the top 25% cut-off GPA by .01, but I assume (read: hope) that doesn't make a world of a difference as a transfer.
I'm currently in a top 20 school, and was looking into transferring to either CCN or Penn. Do I have a shot? I'll obviously do the best I can this semester, but do I need to get in like the top 10% to have a chance?
Also I hear U of C has an early decision option, would applying to that help my chances or hurt them (as I assume the vast majority of people who apply ED think they crushed their 1L fall semester and aren't necessarily confident they can maintain that)?
Thanks for the help!

I'm not replying to the chances (sorry, but my reply there would be uninformed), but wanted to reply to the GPA issue... on the resume:Anonymous User wrote:Hey all, I was hoping you could weigh in on my chances of getting into the following schools. USC/UCLA Law (Los Angeles)
2014-Present
2.58 GPA (top 25% at 2.59)
– [student orgs/activities]
I don't think that being 25% vs being 25%+.01 will affect your chances in any meaningful way. If it does, then they're looking for an excuse to ding you.

i'd venture to guess out at CLS, out at UChi, out at Penn. Maybe NYU just bc of larger class size but probably not.
Not sure specifically on u chi EA.

Thanks for the replies!
So just to clarify, when you guys said out, what percentage do you think I would need to get in? (I'm obviously going to try my hardest, just curious as to how (un)likely it is; or by out did u mean like zero chance unless I CALI every class)
Also thanks for the GPA advice, I actually included it on my resume like that so I'm glad I did it correctly!

Just do the best you can this semester and re-evaluate. There's no world in which best-possible grades are a downside.

Re: Top 25% at T-20: CCN or MVP Chances?
imo it's hard to predict on-the-border cases like (potentially) yours. even if you finished top 10% your cum gpa will only be top ~15% which, from a t-20, isn't a lock for CCN like maybe it would be if you were top 15% at dcng. with that said, flawschoolkid has it right in that you just need to try your best and reevaluate after spring grades. if you are ready to apply (lors in place + deans certs secured) when spring grades are released, you are on pace and not late at all - so just do that.

Sorry but what's dcng? And so it's fair to say that I would need at least top 15-20% to have a chance? How does that play into applying to U of C early decision?

Re: Top 25% at T-20: CCN or MVP Chances?
dcng refers to the t14-10 schools (duke cornell NW and gulc). i meant that if you were top 15% there it is much easier to say you would get in at CCN (though no guaranteed). however, top 15% from a t20 isn't as certain IMO but around there you'd have a decent shot at CCN.Anonymous User wrote:Sorry but what's dcng? O alright thanks for the explaining that! I understand that someone who was top 15% at WUSTL got into U of C regular decision last year, but he may be an outlier.
What are your thoughts on Northwestern? What would my chances be? Is it worth taking on the debt? I have a little over 1/2 tuition scholly at my current school

Re: Top 25% at T-20: CCN or MVP Chances?
When I was 1L at a T20, no one outside of the top 10% was admitted via transfer to any T6 school. Those in the 5 - 10% range were getting into Penn, Michigan, a few NYU, one Columbia. Multiple in the top 5% got into Harvard. Outside of top 10%, it was much more dicey on transfer chances. One guy I know got into Michigan, while another didn't get any worthwhile transfer options. At 25%, you almost certainly wouldn't get MVP.

If this is Vandy... last year someone within top 20% made Harvard and Columbia. Also someone right outside Dean's List made Michigan and UPenn.

It's just easier to transfer now. Someone was also within the top 20% and got Chicago and CLS.Anonymous User wrote:qlinault wrote:Last year, ~median at WUSTL got Michigan and NU

Now as in the past year? Are you basing this on any information? (Not meaning to be insulting in any way, just trying to see if there are hard numbers out there)scottidsntknow wrote:It's just easier to transfer now. So top 20% gives you a chance then at CCN or MVP? Now I'm kind of hearing conflicting information

yea people have been throwing this anecdote around all year but it seems more like the exception that proves the rule to me than evidence of excessively lax transfer standardsscottidsntknow wrote:Nothing special if I heard correctly.TheNextAmendment wrote:Was their last name Chemerinsky or Posner?qlinault wrote:Last year, ~median at WUSTL got Michigan and NU

Re: Top 25% at T-20: CCN or MVP Chances?
I mean at least 3 people went to non GULC T14s with unexceptional grades. WUSTL also doesn't publish a median and GPAs are insanely inflated so maybe that has helped some in WUSTL's case at least.jbagelboy wrote:yea people have been throwing this anecdote around all year but it seems more like the exception that proves the rule to me than evidence of excessively lax transfer standardsscottidsntknow wrote:Nothing special if I heard correctly.TheNextAmendment wrote:Was their last name Chemerinsky or Posner?qlinault wrote:Last year, ~median at WUSTL got Michigan and NU
