Current Stanford 1L interested in transferring to Yale, and possibly Harvard, for personal reasons. I've been looking through the transfer threads and haven't found anyone who's attempted this before. Seems like plenty people transfer from the T14 to HYS, but once people hit HYS they seem to stay (excluding Justice Ginsburg).
I know Yale only takes 15 or so transfers a year, so I guess I'd need at least top 10% this year? Any ideas as to what I'd need for Harvard?

Re: Stanford to Yale?
I'm a 2L at Yale who transferred after spending my first year at CLS. There are no SLS or HLS students in my transfer class, but almost all of us came from T14 schools. Of the fifteen transfer students, five are from CCN, four are from MVPB, four more are from DNCG, and one is from Vanderbilt, which is just outside the T14. The demographics for the prior year's transfer class are roughly similar. In general, it seems that YLS really, really loves top schools when it comes to admitting transfer students. I would guess that the lack of current HLS or SLS transfers here reflects how few SLS or HLS students apply to transfer to YLS, as opposed to YLS's attitude toward those schools. All things considered, the higher-ranked your school, the better your odds of transferring, and other than HLS, a would-be YLS transfer student literally can't go to a better school than SLS. HLS > YLS transfers have been known to exist, however - see http://www.law.yale.edu/admissions/6483.htm - and if I recall there was one a few years back. YLS admissions may look particularly favorably on students from top schools because it just shows how supreme YLS is when students at the other best law schools in the country want to come here but not vice versa. CLS is one spot down from SLS, so I went through a lot of these questions myself last year, and also knew I wanted to transfer early on. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Re: Stanford to Yale?
students certainly transfer between top schools each year. there's nowhere near enough data to tell you exactly what fall grades you would need to be competitive, but suffice to say that it will be far easier to transfer into Harvard, which has a substantial transfer class, than Yale.

Re: Stanford to Yale?
There was one from stanford to HLS 2 years ago. There are 2 CLS=>HLS 3Ls right now, and both were for personal reasons. Basically, personal reasons are pretty common for this kind of move.
