Duke v. Michigan v. NU

Deciding between Duke, Mich and NU. I think it really comes to personal preferences at this point and am leaning towards Duke. Just curious if anyone knows how the transfers do at OCI at these schools. Around top 10% at a T1 but my main concern is getting an offer at OCI or a good job and overall happiness and fit. I will have minimal debt at graduation so I am fortunate it is not big law or bust. Could see myself in Gov’t , firm, PI work. I am thrilled and so happy to just be accepted to one of these schools and would love some input/advice/opinions.

Also could you please not quote in your replies

Duke Pros:
Good placement in NY, the south, DC.
Spent the past five years and part of childhood growing up in the south and really like it, especially Atlanta.
All my family and friends live in NY/Philly area and would like to return to NY after graduation.
Would also love to be in Atlanta/DC as well after graduation
Like the smaller class sizes and the smaller transfer class size
Beautiful campus, warm weather.
The basketball is a plus but obviously not a reason to go.
Marginally better employment numbers than UM.
Closer to home
Students seem laid-back and more collegial (got this impression from UMich as well)
Intuition and gut-feeling leading me here.
Top transfer choice if I had to pick one

Concerns:
Have not seen anyone on TLS post about experience as Duke Transfer and how they are treated.
Worried it does not have as a good name, brand, reach and history as UMich
Seems to get a lot of hate on TLS
Worried that best students will be bidding for NY/DC/ATL firms and will be shutout

Michigan Pros:
Have heard mostly great things from the UM transfers on TLS
Admissions has been incredibly responsive and warm and have had multiple people call me, including previous transfers, career services, admissions counselors etc., about any questions regarding the school.
Good national placement and brand especially in NY
Has a history of being a top school for decades
Like the idea of a college town and Ann Arbor
Love sports-but this is only a bonus and not a reason to pick
Reducing class size and changing curve to help with employment numbers
Beautiful school and facilities
Everyone who attends seems to love it
Like Duke seems to have a relaxed and collegial student body

Concerns:
Seems like the school has been lagging behind the other T-14s for the past couple of years in terms of employment numbers
Worried about the cold, snow and grayness.
Larger transfer class size does not sound as appealing as a smaller one
More worried about striking out in OCI
Worried that best students will be bidding for NY/DC firms and will be shutout
Does not place as well as Duke in the south.

NU: Will probably not attend and will withdraw but just wanted to sleep on it another night before I do.

I know it will come to personal preferences at this point. Thanks again! Sorry for the long post

Chose Duke solely because I like NC and the beach is closer.

Yep geography, don't really love Chicago, some other personal reasons/fits. But it is a terrific school!

ah i see, makes sense. I wouldn't worry about the lack of TLS coverage on Duke...could be a good thing actually.

Personally i think it's a toss-up here. I hate Duke being that i attended a rival ACC school for undergrad :D , but i think it's the better option for you given that it'll open up the South a little more. Both Michigan and Duke will give u good chance at NYC anyway

Ha I actually grew up hating Duke but could learn to love being a blue devil I guess. I have a few weeks to decide but am being pulled in both directions.

could you ask both schools to show you their OCI line up? or transfer placement data? I'm sure both schools probably offered to set you up with transfer mentor or something, they could probably provide better insight.

That's a good idea. UM sent me a list of OCI firms and a lot of information but cannot find how transfers do at OCI.

Just got into Duke this week so I have not gotten any information yet.

Why would transfers do differently between the schools?

No idea, but there was little information on TLS/inteernet about how Duke transfers did.

eh not sure. I just thought that difference in transfer class size might have some kind of impact...especially since Michigan in general is already bigger. but could be completely wrong haha

Wait, so were you accepted at one and waiting to hear back from the others, or have you been accepted at all three?
