I currently attend a lower T2 in the south, and a few days ago, I was accepted as a transfer student at the University of Michigan. While I would love to study law at Michigan, my first choice is Duke. (I'm an NC resident; I'm not currently living in NC, but I already have living arrangements there; all of my family/friends live in NC; it's likely where I want to practice, and I have many other reasons that I outlined in my PS.)
So my questions is this: Would it be a good idea to email Duke and let them know that I was accepted at UM, but that my first choice is Duke? My thinking is that if Duke sees that one of their peer institutions accepted me, then maybe it would be more inclined to accept me. (I understand that Duke takes significantly fewer transfer students than Michigan, so this logic is not perfect.) It's just that right now, I feel that I have an outside chance at Duke, and I just want to do something to try to let them know that I really want to be there.
Thanks for the advice.

But that's the point, isn't it? For better or worse, they expedited the decision. I highly doubt, especially if they waited 5 days to respond, that you were auto-dinged for reaching out.heavoldgotjuice wrote:Personal anecdote: I emailed both Penn and Michigan, telling them of my interest in attending their schools after I received GULC's acceptance (and while the deposit date was closing in on me). Both Penn and Michigan dinged me within ~5 days afterwards.
I am a TTTT'er though, so who knows. Just thought I'd tell you what happen to me.
