This year the deadline to apply is two weeks earlier than in the past. I called to ask if they are planning to render decisions earlier this year (last year was July ~10 with a July 1 deadline) and they said no, they plan to render decisions within a month of June 16, to allow time for interviews.

I was very surprised with this. Any thoughts? Did we possibly misunderstand each other?

do you remember specific details from your call? I can't imagine you misunderstood him/her...it's hard to imagine a scenario where you can mistakenly draw the conclusion that there will be an interview in this process...

H has been doing Skype interviews for regular applicants. Do you remember if the person you spoke to mentioned Skype?
