Harder to Transfer w/o ties USC/UCLA/BERKELEY

Thinking about transferring. I have no ties to either of these three schools or to CA in general. I'm in the top 2-5% at my current school.

Thoughts?

Berkeley cares about ties somewhat, but we have a few people with no ties in our transfer class. I'd worry a bit more about getting a job in CA with no ties as a transfer. CA isn't as bad as some markets, but they do usually prefer people with ties - going to school out here is usually enough, but I'm not sure it would be for a transfer. Presumably the reason you'd transfer out here with no ties is to work here, and I'm just not sure if that would go incredibly well.

I am curious about this too.

Would it be harder to transfer into a school like Berkeley rather than, say, Virginia? Or would Virginia, which is notoriously difficult to transfer into w/o ties, be easier?

Can someone explain what "ties" are? If I went to Berkeley undergrad, I have ties to Berkeley Law?

"Ties" are just connections to a region/city/state, most commonly places you've personally lived (growing up, high school, UG, work experience) or where you have relatives/close friends.
