Lower T14->Harvard

Somewhere well within top 10% at lower t14 after first semester. Considering applying to transfer to Harvard to try and get money from my school and also because I really want to end up in Boston after graduation (I have all the right ties etc normally needed for Boston market). I figure I'll see more Boston area schools at Harvard recruiting than mine. Is that reasonable? Or is that really just splitting hairs in terms of what would ultimately be available via mass mailing/high gpa?

Either way should be good if you already have the ties.

You should obvi apply to see if you can negotiate scholarship money from your school and to keep your options open, but I think that T14 + LR > Harvard. If you maintain your grades, you'll be in a very good spot for Boston biglaw with or without transferring.

Is generic Biglaw opportunity all you're looking at? If so, I'd say T14+LR might be worth staying if they give you money. If you want to clerk (anywhere) or go gov/PI (anywhere or in boston), I think H will definitely give you a leg up.

How do you define the "right" ties needed for Boston?

It would be interesting to know your current law school.
Without more info., apply to Harvard so that you have no, or, at least, fewer regrets.
Tough to leave a great situation: Top 14 law school, possibly top 5%, definitely top 10% class rank. Strong chance at making law review.

High school and undergrad here. Worked out here. Family out here.

I haven't really decided about clerking or not, but certainly no gov or PI work.
Thanks for the insight everyone. I'll definitely still apply (assuming I can keep my grades up...) but sounds like I'll probably stay.

Just out of curiosity, how difficult is it usually to get a scholarship bump from a lower T14 school if you have the GPA to transfer to HYS?
