Transferring to Berkeley
Pros: Can actually get a job
Cons: Write onto LR and $$
I think a job wins

Definitely transfer. 15k a year should not be enough to keep you.

Yeah I wrote to the financial aid office and the dean, asking for more money. No response. It's been 2 weeks. Making LR made things more real

This might be a little tougher if that scholly was phatter. This? No-brainer...go to Berkeley! You could stay top-4% at Hastings and wind up with all of the options of a Berkeley grad, but you are essentially talking about paying an additional $45K for a degree with the Berkeley name on it - which is a good deal in my mind.

^^ Would putting this on a resume forever memorialize me as a transfer student, incapable of receiving admission to Berkeley from the get-go?

You absolutely have to put your old school on your resume. You can't claim a 3.xx gpa from Berkeley if you weren't attending Berkeley last year. From all accounts, Berkeley transfers do really well at OCI, and they're
expecting to see some transfers. Plus, there's no way that we know about LR at Berkeley before OCI bids are due. Better to have old school's LR invite on there than no LR invite.

You have to put it anyway.

Not sure, but I believe the post in reference was tongue-in-cheek. Although you would list all education on a resume, the point is that Hastings provides less value to employers. The fact that you actually made the Hastings LR only strengthens your résumé either way.

Berkeley should allow all transfers a shot at LR. If they don't, that sucks.
They do - it's a write-on (which starts in 3 days. Meep.)
Supposedly out of around 25 transfer students that participate in the write-on competition, CLR takes roughly 8. Not bad odds IMO.

In this boat, one year later. Would love if anyone wants to share their thoughts in hindsight, or if OP wants to PM me.

Top 4% is way way way more prestigious than Berkeley Law. It's not like OP is borderline at Hastings for getting a job. Boalt won't open any doors and will cost like 40k more after loans get paid off. And you gotta transfer, which is a pain.
I'd like to know what quantifiable benefits there are to transfering.
