Ask Berkeley for more time?

Commit to Berkeley.

Here's the way I see it: Going to Berkeley you don't gain as much as you would with HSC. It's close though. And, those may be denials. This is a huge opportunity for you. With BLS you'll have it made in CA, and doors will likely be open in Chicago if you want to return. I'm assuming if you had been admitted to BLS through regular admissions you would have matriculated? So, don't get caught star-gazing now and miss a life-changing opportunity. Plus, if you get stuck at your current school returning to CA will be difficult if not impossible (at least for big law) and it sounds like you really like it there. Start preparing for their write-on competition.

Bottom-line: A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. Good luck at BLS!

The early deadline is both a blessing and a curse. Berkeley is gracious not to drag the process out for us transfers, but it does create some difficulties when comparing opportunities.

That being said, as a fellow transfer (who has put a great dealing of thought and analysis into similar decisions) I think it would be wise to accept at Boalt. Like the previous posters stated, you gain a lot with Boalt that your current school can't offer. The other schools may admit you down the line, but they may not. Like any good gambler will tell you, you have to know when to walk away.

BTW, withdrawing may not be the kiss of dome you think it is. Last year LisaVJ withdrew from Stanford when she accepted at Boalt. A week later SLS still accepted her. Explain to SLS when you withdraw. It seems like they may be understanding?

I think that's very much the right decision, especially with your California goals/ties.
