Currently:
  • Top 1% at a Florida T1 (UF or FSU);
    Total COA is 80k (sticker);
    Law Review;
    Current does not appear willing to negotiate scholarship.
Goals
  • Big Law;
    D.C.; FL; TX; GA; CA -- anywhere warm for that matter;
    Clerkships;
    and Academia hopes down the line.

Admitted at Berkeley and Michigan. Total COA would be 130k. What should I do?

Do you have ties to any of the places you listed in your goals? If not, it might be difficult to get there regardless of where you end up. If you want to work in FL and have FL ties, I imagine there are decent options for the Top 1% at UF or FSU.

Have you told UF/FSU that you're very close to transferring to Michigan or Berkeley when trying to negotiate for $?

Transfer. This would be a harder decision but-for:

Of the other two schools, that's not as clear-cut. If you don't mind me asking, have you applied to HYS? You should have at least a decent chance of getting in to one of them.

Ties to Michigan = family; undergrad; high school.
Ties to Florida = family; law school; spouse; work.
Ties to TX/GA/CA/NC = work -- did a high volume of business for two years in all of these states, among others, despite not being on the ground there.

Applications still pending with HSCCNPD -- but want to get out in front of the game.

Just because one of your goals is to be somewhere warm, Berkeley is likely your best bet as oppose to Michigan.
