My school does not release class rankings until the fall. The letter of good standing indicates such and a couple of schools have said that they'll just evaluate based on grades/GPA and it shouldn't have a negative impact. However, I came across an email from the school giving out rankings for the 2011-2012 year and based on those I am between the top 5-10% and in fact the curve changed and is easier for this year.

Like I said, I've been in email contact with some admissions offices about this topic (among other questions). My question to the group is would it be a bad idea to email the admissions office and be like "Hey, I know I mentioned the class ranking issue from before. In case it is of any help for you, I have an email I could forward from the Dean of Students showing I would rank based on last years curve, would you like to me forward it?" Or should I just go ahead and send it or would an unsolicited email like that be in bad taste?

I'll take any advice I could get on the matter.

My first instinct is to say it likely wouldn't matter, but it would be helpful to know the USNWR range of school you're coming from, and the range of schools you'll be applying to.

Midwest TTT (100-110). Strongly respected in the state (in a market with a t14 where virtually none of those graduates stay so it's essentially the best left in the state). Looking at Mich, NU, and WashU, Ohio St., and Illinois.

Any specific way I should approach? Ask if they'd be interested in seeing the data or just send it a long and be like "Hey, based on last years curve I'm between 5-10%"?

LOL just say Wayne State brah, lol at TTT100-110 in a midwestern state with a T14 that nobody stays in.

Don't send the data, these schools will know what your grades mean with some certainty anyway.

Second, if the curve got easier that means your rank is probably lower than it would have been last year.
