Top Law Schools

Hi. I'm a 1L at Baylor/UH/SMU and am considering transferring to Texas next spring. I noticed on UT's transfer admission page that they admit transfers based on Fall grades conditional upon a similar performance in the spring. Is anyone familiar with this program? Are the first semester grades/rankings about what they would require after the year or the standards higher? I'm sitting around the top 5% and am trying to decide if it's worth getting an application together now for Texas. I emailed the school earlier today but have yet to hear back. I doubt they'll give me much indication on the admission standards anyway. Thanks to anyone that can help.

Also, a related question, does anyone know if you can do the write on competition at Texas as transfer student? It's immediately following the spring semester. What about writing on at NYU, Columbia or Georgetown?
