Are you guys planning on mass mailing prior to the start of OCI? Do you have the time? I'm trying to do research now for which firms to mail, but it's a bit overwhelming. And it's hard when I don't know which OCI I will be at.

I've put mass mailing off until I know where I'm going to be next year, but as soon as I do know I think I'm going to start the process.

Any other thoughts?
I think I'm going to mass mail to NYC and to my home market. Hopefully I can pick up an interview or two in my home market before moving to my new place. For NYC, I guess I'll plan a trip there last minute (if I have time) to hopefully do interviews prior to OCI starting.
Who knows. This is a giant clusterfuck.

Isn't one of the big reasons in favor of transferring that we don't have to do this now?

There's so much shit to do. My summer internship is keeping me from finding housing... and I'm looking forward to the transfer write-on which overlaps with OCI

Hadn't even thought about LR write on at new school. I hope that's after OCI?
Oh yeah, and we have that thing called class.

by Should I Transfer??
This week I sent out semi-targeted letters to the secondary market I currently am living, in an effort to do screening interviews before school starts.

First - don't panic that you're not mass mailing right now. But if I were you, I'd try to pick a school ASAP. If there are places you haven't heard from yet, consider calling and asking just to get it out of the way. The sooner you know where you're going the more time you have. Also, once you know where you're going, you can use that school's information to put together your bidlist. Also, once you know, try and ask prior transfers how competitive certain firms are to get.
Second - if you already have a list of firms from a school, use that to work off. For the most part, the same firms come to the same schools, with only a few exceptions. But the sooner you have a school, and a list, the better off you'll be.
Write on - ask current students. Michigan's write on was all before OCI last year, but if you don't want to bother with the LR portion, the secondary journal write on's don't take very long. But LR might be worth doing this year because a bunch of people missed journal deadlines and there were a record-low in applications, so the cut-off score to get on might be lower then in years past.
Housing - again, that's something you should work out as soon as possible once you know what school you're going to. TLS is a great source for roommates. Also, consider reading the regular applicant "Questions" and "Class of 2015" threads for that type of information.
FlanSolo - you definitely need to be mass mailing as a transfer. You're transferring for more opportunities, not in order to be lazy about the OCI/SA process.
