Top Law Schools

I've heard some talk of transfers being offered need based aid at GTown, B, and HYS. Anyone know if other T14 schools offer need based aid for transfers? And, anyone know when the offers of aid come in? e.g. right at acceptance, a week later, after enrolled, etc. Thanks for any insights...

This is based on some cursory research:

NYU, Columbia - No need aid for transfers

Chicago - No need aid, no scholarships for transfers

Northwestern - Not sure but I think I read once that they don't

Michigan - Only eligible for loans

Penn - Seems like they don't give out need aid

Cornell - No need aid - "Our Financial Aid Office normally does not award institutional scholarship assistance to transfer students. Transfer students are eligible for loan assistance during their attendance at Cornell."

Duke - No need aid

Virginia - No scholarships - "Scholarship funds are not available for transfer students. Transfer students are fully eligible for loan funding"

I think Georgetown took about two weeks to process my need award, which was quite substantial.

Does anyone know why GULC is the only school that gives transfers need aid? (sans the usual suspects of course)

Berkeley gives need-based aid too, fwiw.

Anyone know what it takes to actually qualify for need-based aid?

Unless you're over 30 (in which case you won't need to supply their information), you'll need poor parents, mostly. Even if you qualify as "independent" under FAFSA, most schools will still require parental information.

I completed the needs access form, but I listed 0 for all of my parents information. I haven't lived with them for like 8 years and I don't have access to their tax information.

Are you supposed to submit this form along with the application or once you're admitted? Or either?

Eh. I'm married, a homeowner, military veteran. Not yet 30 though. I guess once I figure out which school I will deal with the specifics.

Some schools (HLS) have a sliding scale. So once you are 26 or 27, they will start reducing the amount of parental income attributable to you by like 25% per year. But I think you still need to report their info to get aid.

Sorry, but anyone with a quick response on this? I'm just trying to make sure all my ducks are in a row.

For Yale, at least, you have to do the Needs Access form before July 1st. Not sure about other schools. You pay once for the privilege, and can submit to as many schools as are on the list.

Does anyone know the income cap?
