My t4 school has a first year curve of 2.4-2.55. Brutal! Majority of people obviously don't put their GPA on their resumes.

Except the curve definitely is nowhere near low at crossarmant's school, it's just more spread out. You need to be at like a 3.9+ there to be top 1-2%, and the median is about a 3.0-3.1. The new curve didn't really change things that much.opX wrote:agreed. same with my school.crossarmant wrote:Seconded. Frustrating having a lower curve than other places.aca0260 wrote:So I figured. THAT is a low curve. Crossarmant's whining was for no reason.opX wrote:less than 20% of my class has a 3.3. median is about 2.8

We curve to 3.25. I think that's pretty high compared to most schools in our range.Jessuf wrote:3.77 at my school is top 1%, but my school has a 3.0 median. No, it's not as rough as some other places, but a 3.7 is 5% cutoff here; so to be at 10% with a 3.77... yeah, it's a bit of a better curve.keg411 wrote:THAT is a low curve. Crossarmant's whining was for no reason.opX wrote:less than 20% of my class has a 3.3. median is about 2.8
But I can agree, its got to be frustrating coming from a school with a 2.0 median, being near the top of your class and still only having like a 3.2. Makes me wonder what these schools are trying to achieve.

Fellow Waitlisters,
Looking at message boards from older cycles (2009, maybe '10) there seemed to be a preferred AND a regular waiting list for GULC transfer hopefuls.
Is that not the case this time around? My WL email said "we hope to have more information for you by late August." Did any other Waitlister's email say something different?
Any other thoughts?

Re: Georgetown RD Applicants Fall 2012
Mine said the same...
Emphasis mine...Dear Not Good Enough and/or Too Good for Us:
The Committee on Admissions has considered your application for transfer and has placed your name on our Waiting List.
The Waiting List is comprised of competitive candidates whom we would like to include in our second year class if space permits. Please e-mail us at admis@law.georgetown.edu to let us know if you are interested in remaining on the Waiting List and to notify us of any deadlines you may be facing. Please be advised that applicants on the Waiting List are not ranked. If you wish to provide supplemental materials for your file, you may forward them to our office.
Please note that if spaces do become available, there will be a short time frame for you to make your enrollment decision. Thus, if you intend to apply for financial aid to help finance your law school costs, you should complete the FAFSA/Need Access forms as soon as possible. Information on applying for aid is available at http://www.law.georgetown.edu/finaid. Completing aid materials earlier will facilitate your aid evaluation and minimize delays in your receipt of your award notice.
We hope that we will have more news for you by late August. Thank you for your interest in Georgetown University Law Center.
Sincerely,

Damn, that sucks. But with you're numbers, you'll get into bigger and better places.mileslibertatis wrote:Mine said the same...

Here's to hoping the lack of FT slots is because a lot of their own PT people switched to FT, which may give me a shot at PT.

Thinking about it, too....
I emailed OJA, and they told me that if you did participate in write on, but not admitted to Gtown before Aug. 6th, then not only are you ineligible for journal this year, but then you can't participate in the 2013 Transfer Write-On either (which would let you be on a journal for your 3L year).

Lame. Does GT have a publishable notes deal, or secondary journals that are worth anything?

Re: Georgetown RD Applicants Fall 2012
I'm just dropping in to vent my frustration. I was admitted 7/3 (by e-mail), and given until 7/13 to make my decision. I would take Gtown over my current school, but don't think it's worth withdrawing my Columbia/NYU/Penn apps...nor do I have $800 to donate to the university for fun, so it looks like another spot will be opening up for you WLer's!
Just my $.02 on their process- I think they're just trying to churn-and-burn applicants, forcing people to either cough up cash or let the next person step up who may be willing to cough up cash, and so forth. It's obviously a calculated move that they require RD applicants to commit long before anyone would hear back from any other school: they deliberately create exactly the predicament I feel I'm in now, and charge $800 for the gamble (and $40 for the journal packet...is that normal?? Shouldn't that be part of tuition? Do non-transfers have to pay for their journal packets? At least no one had to at my current school). Anyway, all of this upfront expense already has me feeling like the cash cow/second class citizen I don't hope to feel like at my transfer institution, so I'm becoming somewhat disenchanted by Gtown. Anyway, I'm sure that a lot of people that have better horses int he race and have been cornered like this will withdraw, and there will be a big wave of admits off the waitlist next week. Here's to hoping that all our dreams come true!
Oh yeah and if it matters to anyone that's keeping track, I'm T30 top 4-5% or so.
