Externships and Transferring

Question: If I get a judicial externship for the fall in current school region, and then get accepted to transfer to out of state school or another in state school that will not give me credit for it, can I back out, or will the schools be flexible with this? How does this work?

To my knowledge most schools you transfer to don't let you be away/study abroad at all. They consider your first year to exhaust all of your not in institution credit. Of course, all schools are different.

My question was that some schools give credit for judicial externships for Fall 2012. If I obtain such an externship, but then get accepted to transfer elsewhere, where I can't get credit for this, can I back out from a judicial intership? Does anyone have experience with this?

Oh, I see. Well it probably depends on the judge. If I was a judge I certainly would understand, but then again, I'm not a judge. Career Service types would probably say to NEVER go back on an acceptance of any position from a judge no matter what. But if you got in to a better school then I would argue that should be an exception. It might even depend on if you plan to practice in the area. Pissing of a judge can have an impact on your reputation in that courtroom for a long time, but if its not a courtroom you plan to ever practice in, it might not be the biggest deal.

Thanks for the suggestion... Decisions on transfer schools won't be out till after judges hired. In the event I can't transfer, a prestigious internship for the fall may give me a boost at T2 OCI in August. I'd like to play my cards right, but it seems like a sticky situation.
