Top Law Schools

Anyone else notice that part 6 requires a Dean to basically right a letter of rec? I don't think I have said more than 3 words to any dean at my law school. Also, does anyone else think it's weird that it asks the Dean to evaluate a number of your skills?

I asked my recommenders for general recommendations and gave them both the LSAC form and the columbia "faculty appraisal" form. I plan on using them for both harvard and columbia. I'm a bit confused about that additional columbia "faculty appraisal" form and how it gets transmitted through LSAC. Will it be connected to my LORS, such that Harvard would receive the form? Or does it get uploaded by LSAC as a supplementary document that I can attach myself? Do I need to have my recommenders submit 2 copies of my LOR, one with the columbia form and one without?

It says on there that the dean might not know the applicant personally. I don't even think the dean saw mine - I'm pretty sure the registrar did it all, and maybe had the associate dean sign off on it.

Yeah I've maybe said "hi" to my dean but I'm not sure he would put the name with the face. I'm sure that's the case for most applicants.

I've been to my dean's house and had a lengthy conversation with him, and I'm still pretty sure he would have to ask me my name again.

Just realized the dean is my professor for an externship class/seminar.... Guess I should start talking to him ...

That appraisal thing is ridiculous, how would a dean at a large law school have any idea about some rando's emotional maturity?

What about the faculty appraisals (their version of the lsac LOR form)? See the edit in my first post. Anyone know how to deal with that?

I think their faculty appraisal form is just if you aren't going through LSAC and are sending them the pdf application. I'm pretty sure you can still just send them your general LORs through LSAC like normal (without their form).

I called them and they said everything should go through LSAC and that the form is required. I think I'm going to call LSAC and ask how they handle it.

Well the lady on the phone said everything, but I don't think that can include LS transcripts, since I believe they say unofficial ones are ok for the july 15th deadline

There has to have been a miscommunication on the phone, because here's what they say in the application instructions on LSAC for the CLS app:

Columbia Law School’s preference is that letters of recommendation be sent through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service. LSAC sends Columbia letters of recommendation once a week; therefore, your letters of recommendation will essentially be forwarded to us as they become available. Please do not send duplicate letters directly to Columbia Law School.

If need be, letters of recommendation may be sent to Columbia Law School in one of two ways using copies of the LSAC-generated Letter of Recommendation Form or the Faculty Appraisal Form found through the online application: (1) recommenders may send the letter in a sealed, signed envelope to the applicant to be included in the candidate’s application, or (2) recommenders may send the letter directly to Columbia Law School.

Ah thanks so much. I was really confused. She definitely said to include the form on the phone, but I guess she was wrong.
