Accepted at GWU and deferred at GULC

This is all depending on my damn Spring grades. If they fall . . . eesh.

Was at ~top 7% after first semester at a top 40. Apps are prepped for yale, harvard, columbia, chicago, nyu, umich with yale and harvard being stupidly large reaches unless i can make a push to the top 3ish%.

Applied to H(Y)S + CCN, Georgetown. Yale and UVA aren't open yet, will send them once they are.

my second semester grades will probably blow but i'll be applying to berkeley. (EDIT: and ucla...and maybe waste $ and throw an app at stanford, too)

got in at usc ed.

Top 10% at a T1, 3 spots between me and top 5%, feel good about exams this semester (we'll see).

Preparing Apps for Harvard, Columbia, Chicago, NYU, Penn, Michigan, Duke, Northwestern, Georgetown.

With the thought about grades permanently embedded in my skull, I think I will be sending in a few apps prior to getting grades back. Mostly for the schools I really want to go to and that are my top choices. I figure that getting the apps in early will help get my app some views and looks.

I just got a bit of a disappointing grade for this past term. But also, I sent all available apps in without my final grades. I will update LSAC and the schools with a final transcript. I can't imagine this will be a problem.

This may be too generic of a question for this thread, but I'm really not interested in divulging any type of information that can identify myself.

Currently at a T2 (in the 80's). Probably am somewhere in the top 15-20% range. Obviously still waiting on spring grades. For family reasons, I am looking to transfer to a school that is mid 30's.

Any ideas on my chances? In my talks with admissions at my target school, they have historically accepted top 20% transfer applicants form a list of schools that are ranked lower then where I am, but they are in the same region. I assume (probably foolishly) that top 20% from my school would therefore give me a fairly good chance, but as I doubt my second semester performance, I turn to you for guidance.

Sorry to hijack... but what is the best play in this situation: I had a 3.0 at a lower end T-14 in the fall and should have close to straight A's the second semester ("figured it out" which isn't to say that I am hot ---- or anything else as it isn't a measure of intelligence). Anyways, let's say that I started at a 3.0 and end after the second semester at a 3.5 (We had more credits in play the second semester). In this instance, would it make sense to transfer to basically hide away those first semester grades? This, of course, assumes that I get accepted putting in a transfer app. that late.

Ok, now lets complicate the matter a bit more - I have a weighty scholarship (more than half) at the lower end T-14 school. This is awesome, BUT... in the long run does it really matter much? If I did something public interest then the LRAP would absorb much of the loan anyways. If I didn't do something public interest it would be because I was working somewhere snazzy. Hence, there seems to be solutions abound.

So, just wondering... how would anybody else play those cards. Since I have some doubts about how to proceed I think the best route may be to stay put. But, just wondering.

There's no way to hide them. Every employer will want to see a transcript from your old school with your 1L grades.

If you plan to spend 10 years or so in a job that is eligible for LRAP then, no, losing the scholarship is not much of a concern. However, what types of jobs qualify and how much assistance you get varies by school.

I don't really understand your last two sentences. You would still take on something like 80K more debt. This is worth it if you don't think you can land biglaw at your current school, but otherwise it's just buying prestige points.

Plan on applying to after I get rejected from Chicago ED: Cal(would be my top choice if I do well this semseter), NYU, Penn, Northwestern, UCLA, Columbia, Cornell.......

basically it is to early for me to post here because I lack my grades. Very nervous about them this semester was drastically harder. So I will likely end up at GWU.....because I am pessimistic.

Your at a top 14. I think you would be better off staying where you are. A lot of us are at T2's. You have to use the first semester grades for OCI at your new school, and will have to rank. So for me even if I do screw up this semester, and have a lot of hurt pride I will much better off at a top 20 than staying at a T2.

The scholarship also makes it attractive to stay where you are at.

Yale. Maybe Harvard.

Wow that's a lot of schools. Sure you'd be happy at all them?

Applied to WUSTL, GW, and GULC EA; accepted at GW & WUSTL but deferred at GULC. I've deposited at GW so if nothing else, I'll be there next year but I am really hoping for Georgetown simply b/c I've a lot of friends and family in the DC wasteland.

Plan on applying to:
Northwestern, Duke (maybe), UPenn, UVA (VA resident), and then Hail Marys to NYU/Columbia (stupidly big reaches).

I am debating on sending an app to Cornell, I know that they don't allow transfers to attend OCI but I can't imagine it's terribly hard to hustle a job out of there with a GPA high enough to transfer in. I also am hesitant with Cornell, Duke, and UVA since they are in small towns and my fiancee needs a relatively large city in which to work.

This is all contingent on me doing better this semester than last however. I feel pretty good about this semester, that said, I'll likely get dominated and be at GW next year.


To OP: Why are you thinking about W&M when you've got GW in your pocket? Unless you're a VA resident who can get lower tuition and really want to work in the Norfolk area, GW seems like a better idea. Same for W&L, though relatively the same price as GW.

In at GW. Deferred at GULC. Debating whether it's worth an application to Columbia/NYU - I hope I have time to see my grades before I have to decide.
