Should I transfer? T2 to GULC
I need some advice. Here's my situation: I am currently ranked in the top 4% at a school in the 70s range and have a full scholarship. Recently, I was accepted EA to GULC. Now, I am feeling conflicted and don't know what to do. OCI in my current school is pretty weak.. Would I have a better shot at GULC? Is it worth the risk?

I was in the same position two years ago. I would pay the deposit for GULC AND blanket the T14. You have a shot at other schools, and you might even get into the T6. I ended up with acceptances to both Boalt and GULC. I ended up taking Boalt. So keep your options open.

To an extent, it depends on what you're trying to do. If you want to be an estate lawyer in a town near your current school, why bother?

I was in a similar situation but 3/4 scholly. I decided it wasn't worth it for GULC, but you have a very good shot at the T10. I was deferred EA, accepted regular, and let the deadline pass for seat deposits, rolled the dice and ended up T6.
Also I was able to see both sets of OCI employment data and compare T14 vs. T6, and all the interviews available/callbacks rates/offer rates were about 2x as good.
It's just too risky to give up T2 with scholarship if its strong in a region, you any kind of work experience, finance background, etc. , or connections. GULC isn't superior in NY, Chicago, LA, SF, or anywhere besides DC, which happens to be one of the most competitive markets, and it ends up taking table scraps after YHS take most DC biglaw and bigfed jobs.
also I think the 'boost' of being a transfer is kind of muted when the class is 80-100 people, plus you have the GULC regular student body of 600 to compete with during OCI. I'd say its a 50/50 shot of biglaw, 1/10 for bigfed.

Right. I should have been more clear... I am aiming for biglaw, but I wouldn't be upset if I ended up in a mid-size firm either. In the end, I am just hoping for a solid job. Considering the economy, it would be really tough if I gave up the scholarship and got shut out at GULC. On the other hand, if I can't get something with my current school, I am sure I would regret staying. The "what if" game kills me.mileslibertatis wrote:To an extent, it depends on what you're trying to do. If you want to be an estate lawyer in a town near your current school, why bother?

It would help if you identified your current law school & whether or not it is in your target market. (My best guess is St. John's.)
